Voice of the Restaurant Industry

Politically, I am at the intersection of Republican and Democrat without being a registered independent. I am conflicted and concerned, frequently using #sickofdc when posting Tweets. I get the angst of those choosing to “Occupy Wall Street” and think stalemate and b******* when discussing those part-timers in Washington called Congressmen and Senators. I get seriously annoyed and frustrated with the growing list of Presidential candidates that we get to choose from. Really? This is the short list? The best of the best the GOP can offer? We have serious problems that need serious solutions solved by serious people with real leadership experience. Please, I would love to see someone with some fully disclosed life lessons. Someone with a FICO in the 600’s. Maybe a past business bankruptcy that shows s/he tried and failed and learned. Even having some taxes owned and yes to inadvertently employing an illegal for a while. In other words, a real human being with life scars that can emphasize with and actually be of the people. Someone with a reasonable amount of baggage that can actually get something done. A leader that isn’t from the beltway and a leader that respects both men and women equally.

I just can’t take any of the current roster of Republican candidates seriously. Can you? While the current President may be trying his best, we still have a multi-trillion dollar deficit and 9% unemployment. Unemployment is even higher for the younger demographic that may in fact decide the next election, while living with their parents because they don’t have a job.

We are a nation of innovators and tremendous capability that is not being fully accessed. Not since the Moon launch have we tapped into this inner-desire to collectively achieve something beyond our dreams. It’s time we socially engaged this capability again to get us out of this rut. We have become fragmented socially, economically and politically. We are on the verge of economic disaster without a plan that can be approved using a two party system. Our leadership is far too busy trying to keep their job and not paying enough attention to helping us keep ours. #sickofdc.

I am conflicted and concerned. The top GOP candidate, or maybe it’s a tie now, is a blow hard from my industry, the Foodservice industry that contributes over $1.7 trillion a year to our nations economy that employs more than 20 million stakeholders. I don’t like Herman as a self-promoting keynote speaker or respect him when he was in charge of the Restaurant Association (NRA). I don’t like him now and I don’t trust him. Herman Cain? When I first heard this guy, the “pizza guy” was running for President, the U.S. Presidency, I thought it was a joke.

I am not known for being political and normally I am dogmatic. I am known for my creativity, for my work ethic, my risk-taking entrepreneurial endeavors that put people to work. I’m known for the love I have for my family and my well-documented passion for this industry that has supported us and helped us put our two kids through college. The restaurant industry employs 1:10 Americans and is a huge income tax contributor to our government. Herman has nothing to do with this. Does anyone really believe that Herman can save our economy, put people back to work, keep terrorists out, help us get back on track as a nation or power the GOP to unseat Obama? This guy is looking to sell books and increase his Klout score. He's showed no leadership back in the 1990’s when he ran the NRA. What has changed?

Herman, please do the GOP a favor and step aside, or Obama will surly win another term. Or, another way to view it, do Obama a favor and try harder to be the GOP favorite. Either way, Herman, you are a foregone conclusion. Your 15 minutes are up.

Herman Cain - performance artist.  Here's why:

  1. Pokeman: at the first GOP debate HC gives his closing statement by quoting a poet - the theme song from the cartoon Pokeman
  2. Sim City: 9-9-9 is the tax structure from the video game Sim City
  3. #45: HC's favorite number is the topic of chapter 9 of his autobiography.  4 + 5 = 9
  4. he disappears from the campaign trail on a book tour (see #3)
  5. he has no real professional campaign staff
  6. Ice Cream: he says he is like Haagen Dazs Black Walnut because of the staying power of Haagen Dazs ice cream: it will never go away.  Black Walnut was already discontinued.
  7. Foreign Policy: Ubeky-becky-becky-decky-stan-stan. REALLY?
  8. Abortion: pro-life, but abortion is the woman's choice.  ibid
  9. Ad #1: smoking man and creepy smile
  10. Ad #2: western with spit, chickens, and HC  gets punched, still creepy smile
  11. I am the Koch brothers' brother from another mother.

HC is trying to tell us something - GOP IS BEING PUNKED by HC.  Please - nominate him so the entertainment continues!
