Facebook Places rolled out in August and now any retailer can claim their Place from their Business Page. Hopefully a lot of you have already done this but if not, it takes just a moment and once done, your customers can check in (a la Foursquare) at your location via Facebook's IPhone app or other access-ready mobile devices.
Facebook Deals are in beta at the moment and, as such, are only offered to a limited set of merchants. Once the service is rolled out to the general population, you'll need to have set up your restaurant's Places page before utilizing Deals. Deals allow merchants to offer discounts and incentives to their customers who check in via Facebook Places, much like the local group deal services such as Groupon and Living Social.
It may be too soon on these two services for adequate feedback, however if your restaurant utilizes either Places or Deals, let us know your thoughts in the comments of this post. It would be great to hear insights from those who have ventured into this new location-based marketing space.
