Here's a few Comments on "Hell's Kitchen"....from my Facebook Page 7-22-09

First I posted:

Patti Hauffe: I am sorry - you know I love all my chef buddies, but "Hell's Kitchen" is a joke. It does nothing but make a mockery of the Restaurant Business, chefs, servers, clients &all concerned. No one would take the most well experienced chef into a new kitchen & not orientate them and expect a full service given.Just like throwing a non swimmer in the deep end of the pool and say sink or swim!

Here's a few comments:

Interesting info regarding the AIG bailout-more fuel for the fire...

Remember when this economic crisis hit, and Congress let Bear Stearns go

under, pushed a bunch of forced marriages between banks, etc.?

Then they bailed out AIG. At the time didn't it make you think... "That's strange.

What does an insurance company have to do with this crisis?"

Well this could just be the answer...among other things, AIG INSURES THE PENSION TRUST OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS!!

No wonder they got bailed out right away!

Heck with… Continue

Angela Kewney

Yes, I am sitting on the beach, glass of wine in my hand, some very rich emmentahler cheese at hand. Thinking of the obvious, I thought I would share some inspiration with you in the form of this stunning cheesecake which has the consistency of creme brulee. It will be the star attraction on the dessert menu, so you have to make two at a time!

Take the following:

2 cups cake flour, plus extra for dusting

50g icing sugar

What is wrong with Michigan?

Here's a good message from Chef Ryan Parker- He's a friend of mine on Facebook-

Chef Ryan says...

I dont mind if the reporters say that we played poorly. It's the point by point, all around beatdown as if they were jr high players.

What is worse is in every article written about the Final Four or Detroit or Michigan is that the state of Michigan is not worthy of positive press. I would like to see an article now written about the spartans got this far. With the… Continue

This is the best ad campaign just made for today's economy!

First I must say this was not my idea - it is not original - I read it in NRN and its an ad campaign that I must share! ( It has been a while back - but I managed restaurants for years and if I was today I would be all over this idea for an ad campaign!)

In San Antonio this brilliant restaurant operator is "Bailing Out" a percentage of his regular or new clients! He went to Kinko's and made an official fun notice that he gives to select customers at the end of their meal who fully… Continue

TED TALKS VIDEO

TED: Jeremy Kasdin: The flower-shaped starshade that might help us detect Earth-like planets - Jeremy Kasdin (2014)

Astronomers believe that every star in the galaxy has a planet, one fifth of which might harbor life. Only we haven't seen any of them -- yet. Jeremy Kasdin and his team are looking to change that with the design and engineering of an extraordinary piece of equipment: a flower petal-shaped "starshade" that allows a telescope to photograph planets from 50,000 kilometers away. It is, he says, the "coolest possible science."

TED: Norman Spack: How I help transgender teens become who they want to be - Norman Spack (2013)

Puberty is an awkward time for just about everybody, but for transgender teens it can be a nightmare, as they grow overnight into bodies they aren't comfortable with. In a heartfelt talk, endocrinologist Norman Spack tells a personal story of how he became one of the few doctors in the US to treat minors with hormone replacement therapy. By staving off the effects of puberty, Spack gives trans teens the time they need. (Filmed at TEDxBeaconStreet.)

TED: Jennifer Senior: For parents, happiness is a very high bar - Jennifer Senior (2014)

The parenting section of the bookstore is overwhelming—it's "a giant, candy-colored monument to our collective panic," as writer Jennifer Senior puts it. Why is parenthood filled with so much anxiety? Because the goal of modern, middle-class parents—to raise happy children—is so elusive. In this honest talk, she offers some kinder and more achievable aims.

TED: David Brooks: Should you live for your résumé ... or your eulogy? - David Brooks (2014)

Within each of us are two selves, suggests David Brooks in this meditative short talk: the self who craves success, who builds a résumé, and the self who seeks connection, community, love -- the values that make for a great eulogy. (Joseph Soloveitchik has called these selves "Adam I" and "Adam II.") Brooks asks: Can we balance these two selves?
