Peeking Behind the Scenes at FohBoh, Inc. | #2

Hi again,

Yesterday was a great day for FohBoh. We spent the day at an all-hands meeting with our new amazing advisory board discussing our vision, status, growth and plans for the future. The talent, wealth of experience, passion and excitement was inspiring. I am grateful for their commitment and participation as I know that FohBoh will feel their impact in the coming months.

Peeking Behind the Scenes at FohBoh, Inc.

Hi all,

I have been asked by more and more members to start sharing what's going on at FohBoh.com (FohBoh, Inc.). The reality is that as a start-up Web 2.0 company engaged in the social media industry, I guess we should walk-the-talk and become a bit more transparent. Now having said that, there are certain strategic matters and IP that we can't share (those pesky competitors), but suffice to say, we need to, plan to and will be more open. This is your community, not the Michael and… Continue

Napa Valley is a Gem

I just wanted to share some thoughts on why I believe real estate and wine is generally more expensive in Napa than in say, some other non-Napa place....(don't want to offend anyone here).

1. It's stunningly beautiful. My wife Kim, Sarah and I visited Napa… Continue

Great Causes Deserve Our Attention

It's the 12.6 million number that got to me. As I see and meet all the lucky ones in my family and around my neighborhood, I want to be reminded of this. I also want FohBoh to be a part of this. This post is just the beginning of what we as a company will do and what I hope we as an online community should do.

Thanks and please… Continue

Restaurant Leadership Conference

It's still going on...through tomorrow and it is quite the gathering. I heard that combined, the CEO's in attendance, run over 500,000 of the 945,000 restaurants operating in the U.S. market! If that's true, I am truly impressed.

One of the more interesting (and passionate) presentations was a pessimistic economic perspective presented by the People Report. More like a sky-is-falling announcement that everyone in the industry should… Continue

TED TALKS VIDEO

TED: Matthew Carter: My life in typefaces - Matthew Carter (2014)

Pick up a book, magazine or screen, and more than likely you'll come across some typography designed by Matthew Carter. In this charming talk, the man behind typefaces such as Verdana, Georgia and Bell Centennial (designed just for phone books -- remember them?), takes us on a spin through a career focused on the very last pixel of each letter of a font.

TED: Jeremy Kasdin: The flower-shaped starshade that might help us detect Earth-like planets - Jeremy Kasdin (2014)

Astronomers believe that every star in the galaxy has a planet, one fifth of which might harbor life. Only we haven't seen any of them -- yet. Jeremy Kasdin and his team are looking to change that with the design and engineering of an extraordinary piece of equipment: a flower petal-shaped "starshade" that allows a telescope to photograph planets from 50,000 kilometers away. It is, he says, the "coolest possible science."

TED: Norman Spack: How I help transgender teens become who they want to be - Norman Spack (2013)

Puberty is an awkward time for just about everybody, but for transgender teens it can be a nightmare, as they grow overnight into bodies they aren't comfortable with. In a heartfelt talk, endocrinologist Norman Spack tells a personal story of how he became one of the few doctors in the US to treat minors with hormone replacement therapy. By staving off the effects of puberty, Spack gives trans teens the time they need. (Filmed at TEDxBeaconStreet.)

TED: Jennifer Senior: For parents, happiness is a very high bar - Jennifer Senior (2014)

The parenting section of the bookstore is overwhelming—it's "a giant, candy-colored monument to our collective panic," as writer Jennifer Senior puts it. Why is parenthood filled with so much anxiety? Because the goal of modern, middle-class parents—to raise happy children—is so elusive. In this honest talk, she offers some kinder and more achievable aims.
