Some Things Just Go Together!

Soup and Sandwich.  Bacon and Eggs.  Love and Marriage.  Peanut Butter and Jelly.  Culture and Customer Service.

Some things just go together !  Like the lyrics from a song my Mom used to sing “you can’t have one without the other”!  If there’s any truth to this premise, why then are there so many organizations that seem unable to admit it?

(Break out…

The Ultimate Insurance Policy – Entrepreneurship!

According to Wikipedia, entrepreneur is a term applied to a person who is willing to launch a new venture or enterprise and accept full responsibility for the outcome. It seems to me, if anyone is going to be successful in the 21st century business world it’s foundational to develop the skills of an entrepreneur.

Forgotten Flip Cam Videos, Unforgettable Event.

Last night when I went to shoot a video on my Flip Cam, I discovered a few videos from a recent event that I'd forgotten recording.

While I had forgotten about the videos, I haven't been able to get the experience out of my mind.

I wanted to share three things about the recent event held by The People Report and Black Box… Continue

A Glimpse of Greatness

Wow. Wow. Did I mention wow? It’s true I have been to my fair share of conferences and trade shows, and usually I dread them. Tired feet, surface and fake conversation, bad food, bad hotels….. ok ill stop now. But getting back into this industry a couple years back definitely changed that opinion. I consider myself very lucky to be a part of this industry. An industry whose people when all lined up together could cross the United States, twice, and an industry whose purpose is to provide an… Continue

Human Beings Are Like Bees by Denis Waitley

In a way, human beings behave like bees. If you place several bees in an openended bottle and lay the bottle on its side with the base toward a light source, the bees will repeatedly fly to the bottle bottom toward the light. It never occurs to them to reverse gears and try another direction. This is a combination of genetic

programming and learned behavior.

Put a bunch of flies in that bottle and turn the base toward a bright light. Within a few minutes, all the flies will have found… Continue

Becoming a better me

Perhaps you remember the story of the person who goes to the doctor and the doctor upon his examination tells the patient he needs to lose weight, begin physical activity, stop smoking and change self destructive habits. The patient, upon leaving the office murmurs, “quack” and immediately finds another doctor.

There are many managers who in essence do the same thing. I speak from personal experience, in my early career I was like that, I worked hard, too hard, which is precisely the… Continue

Gifts from the Recession

I know we’re in a recession when I went to the ATM this morning and it said “insufficient funds” and I wonder if it’s them or me.

Last year this time I had just purchased a nice pair of Prada’s, I was planning a sexy trip to Cozumel and enjoying the benefits of non-commercial air travel. This year I’ve considered selling the Prada’s to make my car payment, hiring a virtual assistant from another company for cheaper labor and hitting on airline employee’s as a lame attempt to have… Continue

The Cornerstone to Your Management Success

Imagine, if you will, two individuals with equal intelligence and equal ability entering the marketplace.

Both given the same opportunities, what causes one individual to achieve average success, and the other to excel, really excel?

I used to ask myself this questions, because I really wanted to Excel.

As a matter of fact, ‘My Story’ was fashioned by the answer to this question.

I went to work everyday. I showed up on time, I kept my uniform looking good.… Continue

TED TALKS VIDEO

TED: James Patten: The best computer interface? Maybe ... your hands - James Patten (2013)

"The computer is an incredibly powerful means of creative expression," says designer James Patten. But right now, we interact with computers, mainly, by typing and tapping. In this nifty talk and demo, Patten imagines a more visceral, physical way to bring your thoughts and ideas to life in the digital world, taking the computer interface off the screen and putting it into your hands.

TED: Hamish Jolly: A shark-deterrent wetsuit (and it's not what you think) - Hamish Jolly (2013)

Hamish Jolly, an ocean swimmer in Australia, wanted a wetsuit that would deter a curious shark from mistaking him for a potential source of nourishment. (Which, statistically, is rare, but certainly a fate worth avoiding.) Working with a team of scientists, he and his friends came up with a fresh approach — not a shark cage, not a suit of chain-mail, but a sleek suit that taps our growing understanding of shark vision.

Our energy future depends on nuclear fusion, says Michel Laberge. The plasma physicist runs a small company with a big idea for a new type of nuclear reactor that could produce clean, cheap energy. His secret recipe? High speeds, scorching temperatures and crushing pressure. In this hopeful talk, he explains how nuclear fusion might be just around the corner.

TED: Sarah Lewis: Embrace the near win - Sarah Lewis (2014)

At her first museum job, art historian Sarah Lewis noticed something important about an artist she was studying: Not every artwork was a total masterpiece. She asks us to consider the role of the almost-failure, the near win, in our own lives. In our pursuit of success and mastery, is it actually our near wins that push us forward?
