Night of the chefs at Le Bec Fin

Here comes one of the “back in the days stories.” When I was young, well, when I was younger, single and hanging out in Philadelphia I heard of Le Bec Fin. My friend Lois would talk incessantly about it, the premiere restaurant in the City of Brotherly Love. Over the 40 years, Chef Perrier has run the kitchen he has won accolades left and right, both nationally and internationally.

Dan Aykroyd is coming – who you gonna to call?

Ghostbuster, Blues Brother, Saturday Night Live’s Dan Aykroyd is coming to Baltimore on Friday, September 11th to Cranbrook Liquors to promote his Crystal Head Vodka. Entrepreneural Aykroyd, whose interest in the spirit world is both literal and figurative, with his Dan Aykroyd Wines, Patron Tequila, and his Crystal Head Vodka as well as his interest in the supernatural, will be meeting the public and signing bottles of his vodka from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Tidbits: coming soons, winners & week in review



You still have today to get to the Italian and Greek Festivals. I’m hoping to get out to one or both this afternoon. I was amazed at the response to my video interview with Top Chef’s –Season Five, Carla Hall – she is well-loved, that is for sure and quite generous with her time.

It's getting ugly in grilled chicken land



El Pollo Loco has a beef with KFC and if you don’t eat beef, so will you. It seems that El Pollo Loco has discovered the use of beef powder in KFC's grilled chicken.

You’ll never look at dinner the same

The turnout to hear Michael Pollan, author of Omnivore’s Dilemma-An Eater’s Manifesto, at the Enoch Pratt just last month was over 900 people. That is telling you that we are becoming enlightened to what food has done to us. Food allergies abound, obesity and diabetes are almost at plague levels and eating processed foods, fast food is killing us.

Food safety, handwashing and Swine Flu - Oh My!

Seinfeld episodes were notorious for dealing with day-to-day incidents. Some themes are classics, I myself refer to someone I know as a close-talker. Probably the one that was the scariest was Seinfeld in the men’s room, the chef came out of the stall and didn’t wash his hands and proceeded back to his kitchen.

The batch is back

Ben and Jerry’s was one of the originals and still is a leader in social responsibility. They recently kickoff a limited partnership with Sir Elton John.
