Summer Camp Withdrawals

That’s what I’m having.  It’s bound to happen.  I spend 3 months getting pumped for what I consider to be the best event of the year.  Followed by 3 days on a high without a drop of alcohol (well maybe a beer or 2…). Then Summer Camp comes to an end.

The withdrawals I’m experiencing are different than one might expect.  My withdrawals are laced with inspiration and excitement.  It’s like I was just exposed to this supernatural energy source and the molecules in my mind, body…

Why Am I Shaking My Head?

They did it again.  I walked away from another PR/BBI event shaking my head.  I guess I shake my head because for about a day afterward I'm speechless.

People ask me , "How was the conference?" and I have a hard time describing the experience.  It's more than just a conference and people just don't get why it's so different.  It's for this reason I shake my head and mumble something like, "You had to be there..."

Now that I've had a chance…

I never went to Summer Camp growing up.  I always thought it was a little weird because your mom had to sew your name into your underwear and things like that.  The kid across the street went every year and told me all about it.  He’d like get shipped off at the end of the school year and show up just in time to go back to school at the…

Meaningful Relationships & Business

Relationships are so important. I remember whenever I struggled early in my career I would console myself by remembering that I have the best friends and family in the world. I am very blessed to have a family that loves and supports me and I have more than a few close “lifetime friends”. I have made it a priority to stay in touch with my friends from high school and college and doing so has enriched my life.

In addition to my friends from…

People Report Conference – What’s the Difference?

WOW! Just got back from the People Report Conference in Dallas and my jaw is still firmly planted on the ground. I’m searching for the adjective to describe the event. Not sure I will ever find it. Scintillating, Fascinating, Awe-Inspiring, Outta This World, Off the Charts, Molecule Rearranging, Inspirational, Motivational, Mind-Boggling, Flabbergasting? String em together - MAYBE. Any…

TED TALKS VIDEO

TED: Hamish Jolly: A shark-deterrent wetsuit (and it's not what you think) - Hamish Jolly (2013)

Hamish Jolly, an ocean swimmer in Australia, wanted a wetsuit that would deter a curious shark from mistaking him for a potential source of nourishment. (Which, statistically, is rare, but certainly a fate worth avoiding.) Working with a team of scientists, he and his friends came up with a fresh approach — not a shark cage, not a suit of chain-mail, but a sleek suit that taps our growing understanding of shark vision.

TED: Michel Laberge: How synchronized hammer strikes could generate nuclear fusion - Michel Laberge (2014)

Our energy future depends on nuclear fusion, says Michel Laberge. The plasma physicist runs a small company with a big idea for a new type of nuclear reactor that could produce clean, cheap energy. His secret recipe? High speeds, scorching temperatures and crushing pressure. In this hopeful talk, he explains how nuclear fusion might be just around the corner.

TED: Sarah Lewis: Embrace the near win - Sarah Lewis (2014)

At her first museum job, art historian Sarah Lewis noticed something important about an artist she was studying: Not every artwork was a total masterpiece. She asks us to consider the role of the almost-failure, the near win, in our own lives. In our pursuit of success and mastery, is it actually our near wins that push us forward?

TED: Matthew Carter: My life in typefaces - Matthew Carter (2014)

Pick up a book, magazine or screen, and more than likely you'll come across some typography designed by Matthew Carter. In this charming talk, the man behind typefaces such as Verdana, Georgia and Bell Centennial (designed just for phone books -- remember them?), takes us on a spin through a career focused on the very last pixel of each letter of a font.
