Restaurant Branding Lesson #1: Don't wake sleeping tigers

Posted on June 29, 2009 at 1:19pm 0 Comments

One thing this world creates naturally is competition. It’s natural and healthy albeit scary and stressful. At first glance, who wants competition? You’d love to own it all, right? Well, that’s just not going to happen, and that is okay. One of the hardest habits to break is to try to take everything for yourself in business. Not only is it poor practice in life, it’s even poorer practice in business. Competition creates awareness and awareness creates patronage. Patrons can be broken into… Continue

Coupons aren't new to the industry, but they are effective. This is a fact that we've encountered numerous occasions on numerous projects. Blabberbug is the brainchild that resulted from years of these coupon experiences.

Today, we signed up Roburritos in York, Pennsylvania. Roburritos has a rock and roll slant on the mexican format. I was in for a treat when the owner laid his coupon offers on me.

For the Blabberbug recipients: A free chips and salsa. Pretty good, FREE is… Continue

Luxury is in the Details - 5 commonly overlooked details in restaurant design

Posted on March 10, 2009 at 12:13pm 5 Comments

Through my "travels" i have ended up branding and marketing luxury restaurants. What has always amazed me is the attention to detail with regard to menu, chef selection, interior design and exterior architecture. Everything is taken into consideration. That is everything EXCEPT the design and marketing.

Design and marketing is usually seen as a necessary evil for all restaurants. When the egos of luxury-minded folks get involved, it's a complete afterthought.

Every detail… Continue

5 Must-haves for restaurant web marketing

Posted on March 9, 2009 at 9:02am 4 Comments

No one has to tell you that you need a web site for your restaurant. What a lot of restaurateurs don't know is how to leverage the web's long tentacles to increase traffic and boost business.

It's common knowledge that single medias won't work. Integrated marketing campaigns get more traction and increase return on your marketing investment. The good news is, integration doesn't have to mean thousands of dollars.

The following medias are a must have for marketing your… Continue

Just saw your Blabberbug site from a March 09 post. How is the site doing? Interesting idea, but I was wondering if the concept could be "gamed?"

Can customers send 3 friends who never go to the restaurant and then the restaurant owner gets hit for a 1.50 each time?

Hi Joe,
sorry it's taken so long to get back - FohBoh went on the back burner as my restaurant client - Founding Farmers - received LEED Gold certification, which absorbed the rest of March and April to promote and celebrate! SPIN is a strategic marketing and public relations firm and I'm primarily working with restaurant clients in the DC market right now, so knew that FohBoh would be a great place to share / chat / network, etc. I've already learned a lot from your posts!
