The average restaurateur has no idea exactly what they are paying

The National Restaurant Association opposes the current swipe fee settlement saying "The current payments system is so convoluted, the average restaurateur has no idea exactly what they are paying and why they are paying large amounts to accept credit and debit cards, which are necessary in today's marketplace." While the NRA and card companies fight it out with lobbyist and attorneys, one thing the average restaurateur can do right now is calculate and compare their cost to accept card…See More

What is your Real Rate for card acceptance?

Information is more readily available today than at any time in the past. Yet making smart decisions based on that information is not always easy. One problem is separating the useful information from the hype. For example, what are the average monthly credit card merchant fees in the restaurant industry?  Are your merchant card processing fees above average or below average? At myrealrate.com you will find valuable information on the cost of accepting card payments using free tools to research…See More

Helping Restaurnats Get Paid

I've been working with restaurants to provide payment services since 1989 (back then, if you can remember, most restaurants were making manual imprints of credit cards and depositing sales draft slips with a teller).

A lot has changed and while the technology has made things more efficient at the point of sale, it has also created new challenges (think data security compromises and different Interchange rates for every card type).

With little barrier to entry, just about everyone can represent that they provide merchant services (oh, and can lower your rate). Unfortunately for us all, most don't have much experience or training. The complexity of the payments industry is packaged in the simple form of a "rate as low as".

If you've been caught up in chasing the elusive better deal, I've posted an article on Work.com titled a "Guide to Merchant Rates, Shopping Merchant Account Rate Quotes" that may be of interest to you.

I also operate various web properties for my company, Vantage Card Services. VantageCard.com provides educational resources and information on the credit and debit card processing industry as well as payment technology, gift card and payroll card services for restaurants. MerchantRates.com is calculator application that delivers an instant proposal and Interchange rate quote for MasterCard, Visa and Discover. myRealRate.com is a rich internet application that can help you calculate what you are really paying for merchant services and then benchmarks your cost against other restaurants of similar size.

I look forward to contributing, attempting to add value and making myself available as a resource to the FohBoh community.

Thanks!

Interchange pricing is the key to merchant savings on Fed regulated debit card transactions

Posted on October 7, 2011 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

Have you noticed the media blitz over what’s being referred to as ‘Durbin Dollars’, the savings from lower Fed regulated debit Interchange rates?   Of course the best way for merchants to realize the benefits of this legislation is to have an Interchange pass through pricing plan.

Your card processor is not required to pass the reduced rates for the Fed regulated debit transactions (and the associated savings) on to your business.  Therefore it is very important that merchants have a…

Hi there! I think this is going to be fun and great for business once it gets built up. Over the next weeks I am going to encourage restaurateurs to join so it can serve its purpose.

We are still working on those website passwords ~ you will be the first I contact when we get this glitch worked out.

Have fun!
