What makes Stoligirl's post so functional is that she offers proactive suggestions. This strategy would also be useful for FOHBOH posts about hourly staff and their job performance. Most of the offerings to the hourly ranks come from the…

This is awesome! WOW I'm not quite sure where to begin. I love this "hands on approach". It's so important to model the behavior you expect from others. I heard a great comment the other day about customer service - "The way…

Great post!! I have printed it out and shared with my team. We do so many of these but we can all do better and keep these simple but critical traits top of mind!

If I Were a Manager...

I was inspired by Bill Campion's post, so decided it was time to chime in.If I were a Manager....I would make sure the back dock looked just as clean and organized as the front door. Delivery drivers should get the same courtesy as our guests.I would consider the type of volume and business when making a schedule. Yes, Friday nights are busy, but which servers are building a Tuesday lunch crowd? Which cooks can handle 2-5pm by themselves?I would notice portion sizes, whether they are on a…See More

Biography
One of my very first job experiences was for H.S. credit. I worked at Disneyland through the R.O.P. Program, led by the invincible Tracy Parker.

A year later, I was a YMCA Director, while I also got into coaching HS Volleyball and Softball.

One Christmas, I helped a friend out by delivering flowers. She quit after Valentine's, and I ended up working there for five years, learning floral design

Fast forward to 2008....Eleven years with America's Favorite Neighbor.
I opened 35 restaurants for Applebee's, and am currently working as a FOH hourly, contributing to the Guest Experience 3-4 days a week. : )

How many Area Directors get this kind of text message?

Posted on January 7, 2009 at 7:23pm 15 Comments

This past sunday, Albuquerque lost another restaurant. While I was reading the paper, getting ready to watch some playoff games, others were getting a TEXT MESSAGE saying not to come in, since the restaurant was closing. I won't give the name of the establishment. It's unimportant. The tragedy is the message and the way it was delivered. I'm fairly certain NONE of those people were hired by text message, so why were they notified that way? How many Area Directors, Vice Presidents, and CEO's get… Continue

You Know You've Worked There Too Long When...

Posted on September 22, 2008 at 12:08am 10 Comments

You know you’ve worked there too long when…

You’ve worn out the plastic color code on your Office and Liquor closet keys.

You’ve gone through phases of Shoes for Crews. (Going back to Euro Clogs, soon)

You went from not having insurance, to having insurance, to not having insurance, and you still work there since you can take time off whenever you want.

You can go all day without using the bathroom, but as soon as you have two margaritas, you need to go every 15… Continue

Shake it like a Polaroid Picture!

Posted on September 1, 2008 at 10:15am 1 Comment

Remember that song? I do. I was coaching bartenders about drink-making methods, and I popped in a CD. We changed the words around a bit, and started to sing our new version, Shake it like a Perfect Margarita! They learned the exact ingredients, the proper method, and it was fun to see the personalities of the bartenders emerge. Such variations of style and technique.

The next day, we were talking about draft beer, and this time, a chant emerged. The movie was from ‘Bring it On’. I… Continue

The Empowered Manager and a Letter Never Sent

Posted on August 25, 2008 at 8:52am 3 Comments

Peter Block was speaking, and I was listening during a thirty-mile drive. The cassette tape was simply labeled, “Empowered Manager.” I couldn’t read the date, but I’m fairly certain it was in the mid eighties when my dad met him at a conference. When I got to my destination, I wrote a few notes in the form of a letter.

Dear Peter,

You asked me an important question today. “What’s my vision?” You told me to create one, and contribute to it on a regular basis. This vision… Continue

thanks for checking out my pics! indeed, our team has a lot of fun. we really try hard to build that personal connection with all of our managers in the company. that is why we continue to spend money on events and ongoing development.

Hi, Andi, I go to the South Bay often since my brother and sister-in-law live up there. There aren't many places I go in Orange for a night out, but I just discovered Zito's pizza in Tustin has a great bar area. In Fullerton, I really like Cafe Hidalgo, food's great even though the bar is small. Have you been?

Great pictures and profile! I see you're a South Bay gal. I'll have to come in to your joint sometime!
