Can Your Local Company Continue to Ignore Google Plus? Not Any More!

When Google+ first appeared on the scene, it didn’t make much of a splash.  Its clean interface and relative lack of tools – especially tools to connect people to specific locations – made it less popular than Facebook and other social media sites for local businesses seeking to reach out to surrounding communities and clients. For some time, local companies could afford to ignore Google+ in the social media landscape. The days of ignoring Google+ are over. Recently, Google announced an…See More

Habits Your Managers Have That Kill Employee Productivity

Like any human, managers make the occasional mistake.  Some mistakes are easily fixed, while others have lasting consequences.  Mistakes that kill employee productivity are especially costly, both to the team and to the organization as a whole. Many productivity-killing mistakes are made in good faith; managers believe that their team really does have things “figured out” or that they’ve judged a situation correctly.  That’s why it’s so important for hospitality managers to understand what…See More

Candidate Reject Your Salary Offer? Here’s What You Should Do

Hiring managers and owners throughout the hospitality industry have seen it: after a long search and several interviews, they find a top manager candidate who seems like a great fit - only to have the candidate turn down the offered salary. While money isn’t the primary consideration on every manager’s list, it’s certainly one of the items the best candidates consider when pondering a job offer.  How your company responds when an initial salary offer is turned down does two things: it…See More

5 Key Things to Help You Decide Whether to Hire or Wait for a Better Candidate

When your organization has an opening, it’s tempting to hold out for the “perfect” manager candidate. Many employers are doing just that, leaving job postings open for up to four times as long as they would have before the 2009 recession hit as they wait for the best possible candidate to drop them a line. Why wait?  Companies offer several reasons, such as the belief that better candidates are available and the desire to make every hire “count” in a slow economy, when available funds for…See More

Biography
Robert Krzak is Founder and President of Gecko Hospitality, a Illinois-based corporation that franchises over 37 Gecko Hospitality Restaurant Recruiting offices nationwide.

The restaurant business has been Krzak’s life work, beginning with his early days in a family owned restaurant, and later as a teenager working in fast food eateries, and after college, MANY, full service restaurant chains. After realizing that he wasn't cut out to be a “career” restaurant manager, Krzak met Bill Timmons of Resources In Food, a man who immediately and unconditionally believed in Krzak’s ability to educate and assist restaurant managers with their employment decisions. In 1997, Krzak opened his first recruiting office in Indianapolis, Indiana under the Resources In Food name. Six months later, Columbus and Cleveland, Ohio had opened and became one the mid-west’s highest producing offices for the entire organization.

In 2000, Krzak sold his franchised offices back to Resources In Food and four months later developed Gecko Hospitality. Gecko’s first corporate office was located in Charlotte, North Carolina and managed by John Bisceglie who today is a very successful Franchise Partner for Gecko Hospitality in Illinois and Indiana.

Krzak continued to develop the Gecko Hospitality concept and in 2004 realized that the only way to successfully build this company was to be surrounded by professionals who believed in the same philosophies and principles that has helped grow the company so quickly. In late 2004, Krzak began franchising by word of mouth. Through his experience in restaurant operations and especially in the recruiting business, Krzak formulated a philosophy based on the importance of franchise partners, of sharing responsibilities and profiting with them, and of developing and growing together. Today, Krzak has 26 working franchise partners, some of whom have come up through the organization.

Krzak’s guiding philosophy is that he is not interested in being the richest restaurant recruiting firm; just in being the best he and his franchise partners and employees can be. He places enormous value on the franchise partners and employees who work for Gecko Hospitality and feels tremendous responsibility for their continued success.

Krzak’s personal life revolves around his family. He and his wife Sheri have been married for 14 years, and have three children Alex, Jordan and Julia. Both Krzak and his wife Sheri graduated with their degrees from Western Illinois University.

TED TALKS VIDEO

TED: Michel Laberge: How synchronized hammer strikes could generate nuclear fusion - Michel Laberge (2014)

Our energy future depends on nuclear fusion, says Michel Laberge. The plasma physicist runs a small company with a big idea for a new type of nuclear reactor that could produce clean, cheap energy. His secret recipe? High speeds, scorching temperatures and crushing pressure. In this hopeful talk, he explains how nuclear fusion might be just around the corner.

TED: Sarah Lewis: Embrace the near win - Sarah Lewis (2014)

At her first museum job, art historian Sarah Lewis noticed something important about an artist she was studying: Not every artwork was a total masterpiece. She asks us to consider the role of the almost-failure, the near win, in our own lives. In our pursuit of success and mastery, is it actually our near wins that push us forward?

TED: Matthew Carter: My life in typefaces - Matthew Carter (2014)

Pick up a book, magazine or screen, and more than likely you'll come across some typography designed by Matthew Carter. In this charming talk, the man behind typefaces such as Verdana, Georgia and Bell Centennial (designed just for phone books -- remember them?), takes us on a spin through a career focused on the very last pixel of each letter of a font.

TED: Jeremy Kasdin: The flower-shaped starshade that might help us detect Earth-like planets - Jeremy Kasdin (2014)

Astronomers believe that every star in the galaxy has a planet, one fifth of which might harbor life. Only we haven't seen any of them -- yet. Jeremy Kasdin and his team are looking to change that with the design and engineering of an extraordinary piece of equipment: a flower petal-shaped "starshade" positioned 50,000 km from a telescope to enable imaging of planets about distant stars. It is, he says, the "coolest possible science."
