These are challenging times for sure. Job loss has created a new awareness of and appreciation for networking, online and off. Creating a professional profile on FohBoh that reflects you, your experiences and your interests is a good idea. Not only will others in this industry find you, they can also download your resume.

Step 1. Make a PDF copy of your resume. While a .doc will work, a graphic cannot be edited and is easier to email.

Thanks to all FohBoh members that have helped me figure all this stuff out. While I have been in the business for a while as a FOH server and 'tender, being an entrepreneur is new. My friend who is a government employee refers to entrepreneurs as "I-trip-in-manure" glory I say.

I just have to tell all fohboh members how amazing it feels to to be able to ask a question of strangers and get excellent advice. It comes without judgement, without cost and is actually based on real world experience, and is so typical of this amazing industry...we help each other.

I have new friends, fans and advisors now that are from a dozen different countries.

Thanks so much fohboh for making this a restaurant "people" network.


Buying Used

I have successfully migrated from being a server to being an entrepreneur...a little scary. A partner and I have purchased a small 2,500 lease near the water, so seafood and tourists are a natural. The former restaurant and pub owner passed away so we were able to solve their family's problem while making it a reality for us.

The kitchen is a mess though and needs repair, new equipment, a larger hood and new flooring tile. The bar is in pretty good shape though.

Restaurant Sales Bounced Back in March

Restaurant sales posted a solid gain in March, and bounced back completely from the recent soft patch. Eating and drinking place sales totaled $47.3 billion on a seasonally-adjusted basis in March, up 1.1 percent from February's upward-revised sales volume of $46.8 billion, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.
