Facebook Places and Deals - Is Your Restaurant Using These Tools?

I just wrote a quick blog post at our website regarding yesterday's launch of Facebook Deals and wondered how many FohBoh enthusiasts are utilizing Facebook Places? Facebook Places rolled out in August and now any retailer can claim their Place from their Business Page. Hopefully a lot of you have already done this but if not, it takes just a moment and once done, your customers can check in (a la Foursquare) at your location via Facebook's IPhone app or other access-ready mobile…See More

Travel Expected To Increase; How Can Restaurants Draw in Tourists?

Posted on November 18, 2009 at 12:06pm 0 Comments

Deloitte published a study today announcing that 45% of American households are planning an overnight trip that includes a stay in a hotel or other lodging facility from now until March 2010. This opens some doors to restaurant marketers to put their eateries in front of these visitors. What's the best way for a restaurant business to market to tourists visiting their city? My suggestions include local search marketing, upgrading the restaurant's… Continue

Snow, Rain & more greet us on our Marathon Tour for the Great American Dine Out

Posted on September 22, 2009 at 1:07pm 0 Comments

September 20 was the official end of summer in Colorado! It was also the first day of the Great American Dine Out and Matt and I set out on our seven-day quest to support restaurants participating in the Dine Out event. Our first two stops were Crested Butte and Aspen, two gorgeous mountain towns that fed us well. We're updating in more detail on our… Continue

Is Social Media Enough for Online Success?

Posted on July 31, 2009 at 10:25am 1 Comment

Poll your friends in the restaurant industry about online marketing and my guess is that most, if not all, would define internet marketing as social networking, email marketing or some combination of the two. Twitter, FaceBook, MySpace, blogging and newsletters garner the vast majority of buzz surrounding online marketing for restaurants these days and believe me, I'm not arguing against building a solid social media campaign nor am I questioning the returns a business can see from an effective… Continue

Hi Alyson, the 60% - 85% range is a fairly conservative combination of a few data sets as I felt it was more accurate to provide a range rather than a definitive number. The first source is the AIS Media’s 2007 National Restaurant Consumer Internet Usage Survey, which showed that 89% of people did some form of research online prior to eating out and 57% viewed the restaurant's website prior to dining there. The other source is a tool that Google offers, Google Insights, which displays how many searches have been done for a particular term, relative to the total number of searches done on Google over time. In 2009, restaurants searches range from 82 - 94. Thanks for your comment!

Great comment on my blog Mindi, and I absolutely agree that an online presence and nutrition information needs to be accomodated with an easy to navigate page for users.

Do you happen to have the article or source of the fact that 60-85% of adults search online before selecting a restaurant? That definitely makes sense in this tech-savvy world, and I'd love to read more on it.
