They made a decision about 5 years ago to stop investing in a paid circulation model. Now they are paying the price - they need readers to justify the advertising costs so they have to give it away free. And now they're spending money to give it away!
Actually it ended up being an 8 oz. Filet Mignon wrapped in bacon. Yum. Can't remember the wine - a guest brought it but it was excellent (I'll have to look in the recycling bin and remember what it was so I can buy a bottle). Corn on the cob done on the grill with olive oil instead of butter and a spinach salad with a raspberry vinigrette dressing.
Appetizer was baguette sliced, crisped on the grill with a tomato-basil spread.
It was an excellent meal followed by a brandy and cigar on my deck.
