Biography
I truly have a passion for the Restaurant Industry, and in fact, have spent my entire career thusfar in many facets of this wonderful business.

I started as a busboy at age 14 at a very fine French restaurant (my brothers got me the job - I looked at least 17 : ) ) . When you bring home $100 per night at 14, this is when I was "Bit" by the bug that is this business, and Restaurants have been my career, as well as my hobby ever since.

Since that start at a very young age, I have been in both the FOH & BOH - Just about every position, I was a General Manager for more than 5 years, I was a Regional Manager, and my escape from the Operations side of the business was to go into Sales....where I .......(wait for it)......

I was both Sales and Sales Manager for a Foodservice Distributor (Restaurants & Institutions), and I eventually ended up selling a technology-based reservation product to high-end Restaurants for OpenTable.

I am now Director of Sales & Business Development for MobileWait out of Columbus, OH

Book Recommendation - "Blink - The Power of Thinking Without Thinking" by Malcom Gladwell

As someone who has been in Restaurant or Food related Sales and Management for more than 20 years, I have read just about every Sales, Management or Self-Help book that has come along and are on the recommended lists, and I admit, I am better for doing so. I have been to seminars and training classes. I went through LADDR, American Sales Masters in Chicago, all of which has helped shape and mold my performance and I have always taken bits and pieces away from these "traditional"… Continue

$325 Equals $210? The Math of Customer Hostile Policies

So I bought a plane ticket. It cost me $325. My plans changed and I now had a credit with one of the major air carriers. No problem. I know I'll have to pay a change fee at a later date (usually $100) but not a huge deal. "At least I'll be able to use the credit"… Continue

No Website? What are you thinking? If you have one, does it make $$?

Posted on January 7, 2008 at 12:36pm 3 Comments

I have been amazed recently by the number of restaurants, and some of them very good quality restaurants, who do not have a website of any kind.

Another recent blogger has pointed out the importance of Online Advertising and given the facts and figures, but this is just basic reasoning. The best form of online advertising is having your own website, and there are still those who do not see that value of the Internet, yet are complaining that business is not what it used to…

Wow - talk about 6 degrees of separation! There were a lot of people stranded there - we were, for four days! We finally got one of the last rental cars and drove home to Boston almost non-stop in one day.

Getting ready to reopen for our 19th season in a resort area of N.C...spectator award rest. for 9 years, upscale mountain dining, 40 seat rest averaging 95 per night, 30 years in the bizz, point me in the direction of getting back in touch with my customer base, just hired a sharp 29 year old with new ideas, new blood, high energy to lead us into new waters, optimistic about upcoming season, enjoy what I do, still having fun but looking at new directions, i.e. wine dinners, special events, ???
Would love to kibbitz ! Ciao
