Hi John, I just read the Built to Fade article you posted on my page. Very interesting. I fully agree with you that marketing is shifting rapidly from what you called the "brand-as-icon" philosophy, but I think we still have a long ways to go. I think that we are at a point where people seem to go one of two ways (and I'm going to talk in ridiculous generalizations for a sec...forgive me!): people who are sick of the constant media and brand bombardment, and people who are more desperate than ever to align themselves with brands (just take reality TV: the ultimate form of self-branding in an attempt to become iconic). So while, I think you're article shows a glimpse of where marketing is absolutely heading, I believe that we are defiantly not quite there and the challenge is for businesses to find a way to market themselves in this in-between state. Cheers! Love to know your thoughts, and see some more of your articles.

Hey John,

In your twitter comment did you mean your blog on TR homepage conjuring folks to exercise their democratic privilidge of voting for the leader of the free world? I thought it was appropriate, bipartisan-ish and catalytic. Good job.

I can't log in to TR right now for some odd reason (have I become persona non grata?) and only can view the page, not comment or enter my page. Weird. They are working on it but I feel like a bug hitting the glass. Hurt and ineffective.
