About the Tour!

Join the FohBoh virtual tour. Follow the tour, invite your friends, join the conversation, vote and enter your photograph to win $1,000.

At some point we would like to make this a real bus tour. In fact, we have it planned. It's a lap around America, seeking out cool restaurants and their operators and employees who are passionate about food, service, their customers and this industry. These are the restaurants and restaurant operators we want to recognize and promote; blog about, Tweet about and bring attention to. But, that's phase II. Who knows, Maybe Phase III is a world tour! So, the first step is virtual. So, let's go!

Phase I
What: The FohBoh Eat Across America Photo Contest
When: January 1, 2010 to December 1, 2010
Where: The United States - Virtual Bus Tour
Why: Because we can, because it's fun and because we can't afford a real tour-yet!
How: See instructions and read Contest Rules below
Who: Any FohBoh member. Please see Contest Rules below

About
Early FohBoh member, Adam Cox, came up with the virtual tour idea, but we never really pursued it. That was in 2008. The good news is, now there are cameras everywhere and more social web tools that make it easier than ever to socialize and promote the Eat Across America Bus Tour and your photo.

Step 1. You must be a FohBoh member and have a complete profile. Yes, that means you need a real nice photo of you on your profile. Don't be shy!

Step 2. Read the Eat Across America Photo Contest Rules below.

Step 3. Click here and download a photo of the FohBoh Bus. Print it out.

Step 4. Be creative. Then have someone take a digital picture of you holding the FohBoh bus somewhere, anywhere. Cool landmarks are a plus.

Please make sure each photo submitted meets with our Contest Rules and is not digitally enhanced or inappropriate in any way.

Step 5. Email the photo to fohbohbus@fohboh.net. Upon review, we will add it to the Eat Across America Tour photo album where votes (in the form of comments) will start. We will also add it to the slide show shown above.

Step 6. Socialize it. Click on your photograph(s) in the album, grab the link and share the link on facebook, MySpace, flickr, Twitter, digg, or any other social network. Get the word out to vote for you. Check back for comments!

For more information, please see the Official Contest Rules, or email fohbohbus@fohboh.net.

Good Luck!

TED TALKS VIDEO

TED: Michel Laberge: How synchronized hammer strikes could generate nuclear fusion - Michel Laberge (2014)

Our energy future depends on nuclear fusion, says Michel Laberge. The plasma physicist runs a small company with a big idea for a new type of nuclear reactor that could produce clean, cheap energy. His secret recipe? High speeds, scorching temperatures and crushing pressure. In this hopeful talk, he explains how nuclear fusion might be just around the corner.

TED: Sarah Lewis: Embrace the near win - Sarah Lewis (2014)

At her first museum job, art historian Sarah Lewis noticed something important about an artist she was studying: Not every artwork was a total masterpiece. She asks us to consider the role of the almost-failure, the near win, in our own lives. In our pursuit of success and mastery, is it actually our near wins that push us forward?

TED: Matthew Carter: My life in typefaces - Matthew Carter (2014)

Pick up a book, magazine or screen, and more than likely you'll come across some typography designed by Matthew Carter. In this charming talk, the man behind typefaces such as Verdana, Georgia and Bell Centennial (designed just for phone books -- remember them?), takes us on a spin through a career focused on the very last pixel of each letter of a font.

TED: Jeremy Kasdin: The flower-shaped starshade that might help us detect Earth-like planets - Jeremy Kasdin (2014)

Astronomers believe that every star in the galaxy has a planet, one fifth of which might harbor life. Only we haven't seen any of them -- yet. Jeremy Kasdin and his team are looking to change that with the design and engineering of an extraordinary piece of equipment: a flower petal-shaped "starshade" positioned 50,000 km from a telescope to enable imaging of planets about distant stars. It is, he says, the "coolest possible science."
