Discovering new food, Consulting, Networking, Gaining Knowledge
Biography
Rather than a marketing person who happens to do food, Alexei is a food person who happens to do marketing. He started his foodservice career at 16 at the Rusty Pelican in Pacific Beach, CA as a host and busser. During and after college, Alexei worked as head baker at Pasta di Solazzi, a specialty bakery/deli in Colorado Springs, CO. It was a great job, but the hours were murder! After an internship and stint as a paid writer and editorial assistant at Colorado Homes & Lifestyles magazine, he moved back west to California and the bay area, where I discovered foodservice marketing at Ketchum Public Relations. As part of his duties there, he also acted as assistant producer for KPIX-TV’s “Quick & Easy Cooking” bi-weekly food segment, “wrangling” Bay Area chefs to demonstrate their recipes
Four years later, and after a brief stint as marketing director at Wild Sage Foods, a start-up restaurant concept in Mill Valley, CA, Alexei joined Edelman in April 2004. He currently heads up Edelman's Foodservice Practice and works with the Mushroom Council, Kona Blue Water Farms and Barilla Foodservice, handling a wide array of crisis communications, marketing and public relations activities.
During my 9 years in the business, Alexei has represented a number of brands and commodities, including the Almond Board of California, the California Strawberry Commission, Kikkoman International Inc., Instill Corporation, Dixie Foodservice, and Basic American Foods. .
Alexei recently completed a 3-year term on the executive board of IFEC, the International Foodservice Editorial Council, including a year as President during the organization's 50th anniversary year. He also serves on the board of Vida Verde Nature Education, a bay area non-profit education center for at-risk youth.
