Hi, just a quick not about some new openings in SF.

1. Waterbar by Kuleto and Co. on the Embarcadero is outstanding. Nice fishy tanks, oysterbar and excellent upscale casual dining.

2. Epic Roasthouse, also by Kuleto next door to Waterbar is a great oldworld steakhouse. Jan does an excellent job. Sit at the counter to get a great view of the kitchen.

3. Fifth Floor. Now managed by C& L Partners, LLC, the restaurant management company co-owned by Chris Condy (Aqua) and Laurent Manrique (Aqua, Cafe de la Presse). Awesome redesign with country French cuisine.

Would you like postings about big projects in the works (sneak previews), or just projects that are already open?
I have lots to share, either way. Please let me know!
Ok, so here goes...

- There's Level III at the JW Marriott, a hip new restaurant-lounge concept. There's actually an opening party there tomorrow night (June 13th) sponsored by 7x7 Magazine.

- Beretta opened in the former Last Supper Club space in the Mission. Manning the stoves is co-owner Ruggero Gadaldi, who also owns Antica Trattoria and Pesce. 23rd & Valencia

- Chez Papa by the Maktub Group (Jocelyn Bulow) opened their newest location at the Mint Plaza Project, 5th & Mission streets

- Dennis Leary, the wonder-chef behind petite Canteen has opened another pocket-sized eatery, The Sentinel across from the Palace Hotel, New Montgomery at Market

- La Mar Cebicheria is a monster concept (11,000 sf) set to open in August at Pier 1 1/2 at the new Piers project. I met these guys at the Restaurant Bootcamp event, and they are really sharp. The GM is from Nobu Miami, I think. Look for it to be a huge buzz-generator à la Waterbar. http://thepierssf.com/

- Tyler Florence is supposed to open "Bar Florence" in the Vertigo Hotel (currently the York Hotel). Opening date has been pushed from summer to fall of 2008.

That's it for now. I'll add more as I think of them!

The parenting section of the bookstore is overwhelming—it's "a giant, candy-colored monument to our collective panic," as writer Jennifer Senior puts it. In this honest talk, she offers some kinder and more achievable aims.
