Restaurant Social Media

All-

I was cruising the web today trying to learn more about online ordering solutions for restaurants. Not being a restaurant myself, I've not experienced the deluge of options out there, but having walked a couple tradeshow floors I see there are hundreds, if not thousands.

Has anyone see any reviews or comparisons out there? Is there a media publication that covers these providers and might have some quick insight into which ones are better than others?

If not... maybe this group can team up and do a review of the top ten? Would be very sticky content for the restaurants who frequent FohBoh I would think. We'd want to know about their tech, their costs, and especially their customer support.

Ideas?

I think this is a great idea as well. My unit is quickly extricating itself from an truly horrible experience with a company that is attempting to develop an online ordering system. They have been uncooperative in making changes that we request and are attempting to get us to pay for hardware we do not want or need. We have been participating in the Beta test and now they want us to pay the full price before the product is even close to being the way we want it. I would love to heare about other people experiences and what products are out there that are workiing well.
Hi Michael,

That sounds brutal in so many ways. If you're kicking tires on a new (and fully developed) solution for online ordering, one that actually talks to the backend kitchen and POS as well, drop me a line. Incidentally, there's no hardware required, as we're 100% web-based, which is what you should expect from an online ordering solution...

I would love to hear ideas on this as well. My company is starting to build an online-meal ordering system that we will be integrating into the various POSs, so any thoughts as to what would be part of your "ideal" online ordering solution would be great to hear!
My company may not be the best of breed and for sure doesn't do what others can, but for the price and features we are more geared toward smaller client but can handle the larger ones even with online reservations coming soon. Our site is really an online restaurant menu portal like the others but we do offer free online ordering for customers/owners and don't take a cut. We have found that many many many mom-and-pop, and even smaller franchises, are grateful for our services and cost. It's hard for "local" owners to jump into the major online ordering solutions and it's hard to justify that they will have the traffic and recover their cost on their own website when the restaurant industry is showing that most people find a place to eat by going to the portals like ours.
