Hi Dave,
Try QSR Online, which I know integrates with Dinerware (POS), and I am sure a number of others. It's a great centralized online inventory management system that you can use for one or more restaurants.

Considering that every restaurant is so unique it is going to be hard to avoid an initial setup and faithful maintenance. I suggest ChefTec it takes a considerable effort but has POS integration and Vendor Download capabilities. The key value in an inventory control system, beyond standard overall COGS generated weekly, is to obtain a Theoretical Cost. (Which ultimately requires all the effort you are discovering with the many options on the market)

You have got see Windstar from RMS software. BEST $500 I ever spent. Auto update new itiems/prices from my Vendor and connects to my ALOHA POS.
