Restaurant Social Media

Interestingly, it is not often the corporate headquarters that initiates the use of mobile coupons. Local franchisees take it upon themselves to attract neighborhood business by publicizing keywords and SMS short codes on inserts and mailers, in-store signage and word-of-mouth. The response seems to be positive and the franchisees are building customer loyalty along the way. What do you think?

For sure I believe it when you think the average person has there cell phone within arms reach 24/7, why wouldn't you want to take advantage of that captivated customer.

Mobile is the future! I just read a report from Universal Mccann that stated 1 of every 7 minutes of media consumption today is through the mobile device. That's 14% of all media is mobile, blows me away that is true and still 90% of sites are not mobile compliant. Sure there is the iPhone or the Palm Pre, but you are still working on a 3 inch screen that can't handle flash.

I have been working with a few of my accounts to create them mobile compliant site to take advantage of perspective customers browsing the mobile web. They instantly have seen traffic on there mobile site even without an activation campaign. Add a SMS campaign and you can take 160 characters to infinity.

Looks like you are big into mobile Drew, anytime you want to talk different ideas let me know, there are not many mobile marketers out there.
Judging by the article you posted on LinkedIn, I'd say 'yes'. I have a question for you - isn't this quite expensive to implement? I started doing mobile payments and toying with short codes a few years ago but realized there was a big expense associated with it. Maybe I need to dust off my old notes and take another look? What do you suggest?
For small business SMS is very inexpensive and a great way to send simple mobile coupons. Better than coupons, SMS allows them to connect with consumers almost real-time about specials, events and VIP offerings. A coupon is a good incentive to have consumers join your mobile text club, but I wouldn't restrict your SMS messaging to only that.
