I'm starting up a consulting business after 30+ years as a manager. I'm going to focus in on various aspects of food and bar cost control. I'm debating about what to call the business.
My initial inclination was to call it The Food Cost Guru. That's what I've been called for the past dozen years in two different companies and it simply and clearly states what the business is all about. I intend to remain a "lone wolf" so the singular form works.
But I'm getting some push back from my wife and some friends that the name is too informal and I won't get taken seriously. They think that something like Tandler Restaurant Associates would be more proper.
I understand what they're saying but what I think they're missing is the fact that the restaurant business isn't as formal as most are. I haven't seen anyone who was working wearing a tie in at least 10 years and I'm going to be dealing with places such as The Frog and The Redneck and Mulligan's.
What do you folks think? Would such a name turn off operators?
How about "Food Cost Gurus"? This way, clients feel it is a group rather than one individual. I personally feel clients feel more "comfortable" dealing with a firm (more than one consultant) rather than just one consultant.
