1) Work your space. Let every member of your audience see you by pacing the stage while you speak. Hiding behind the podium is for people like the Secretary of Defense during press conferences. Yawn. Movement will keep your audience engaged.
2) Make and maintain eye contact. This is so hard to do, especially since we're already self-conscious while presenting. But make it a point to look a few of your audience members in the eye, and you'll be happy to see how quickly you grab their attention. You might even notice they're completely immersed in what you're saying.
3) Smile. I was in corporate training for a while. When I first started, I was told I came across as "very serious." This was a surprise to my managers who hired me because of my effervescent personality! A smile can make a big difference, and it helps us to act "as if" we're having fun. Even though we might be sweating bullets while curbing the anxiety.
