Restaurant Social Media

The Atlanta ACF Chapter and the GRA (GA Restaurant Association) have formed a Local, Sustainable & Green Roundtable dedicated to addressing related issues within the Georgia culinary community. One of the key issues is lack of local supply available to chefs, resulting from an insufficient number of farmers, regulations/legislation prohibiting (or at least hindering) production and distribution challenges.

We are ready to move from passionate discussion to solid action and are dedicating 2008 to education of consumers, lawmakers and ourselves of the current scenerio and desired outcome. Georgia Organics is our partner in the initiative and has already done much of the research necessary to understand the current legislative/regulatory obstacles.

When we get our one-page business plan drafted, we will share as input from around the country (and world) will be greatly appreciated. The time is ripe for action and we are excited to be part of the catalyst for change.

Thanks for your comments!

I'm glad to see this being addressed and to be a part of this group. Especially here in Georgia where agriculture flourishes, it seems local and sustainable food products would be plentiful, not only for chefs but consumers as well. I look forward to your progress!!

Hi Holly,

Here in the UK the nearest equivalent is Cultivating Communities which

"supports the development of novel arrangements between farmers and those who eat the food they produce based upon a relationship of mutual support. [It's ]initiatives are an opportunity for us all to play a part in the transition towards more sustainable local food systems."

So glad you are exploring this area, Holly. I think your timing couldn't be better. Have you heard of Edible Communities? Here is a link to learn more: http://www.ediblecommunities.com/portal/index.php
I saw there is an EdibleAtlanta. Their website is not up and running, but perhaps their magazine is being produced. Whoever might be the local publisher might be an excellent contact for more information and who might be growing/producing fresh food in your area.
My hats off to you!
Rebecca
Hello Again!

How fun you mention Edible Communities! I worked for the original Edible Atlanta and have a Batdorf & Bronson ad in Edible Portland. This afternoon I met with the new Edible Atlanta publisher and am excited it will be back stronger than ever.

We have a phenomenal start here in Atlanta with our GA Producers Task Force and it is going to take persistence and tenacity to see things through. It will be fun.

Thanks!

Holly
How local is local? Should we limit local to just our city? state? or even country? In my opinion its country. Far as I know there isnt much corn grown in GA but couldnt imagine a menu with zero corn products.

Opinions?
Holly's GreenFoodserviceAlliance.org Website is now up and accessible to all those that are interested.
