Many software services now peddle social review monitoring and reputation management. what have you found to be a successful way to manage reviews on yelp and others ?

Instead you want to attack them head on by apologizing and saying you'll try and fix whatever mistake the customers thinks was made. Sometimes people write bad reviews because there was a misunderstanding on their part or yours and sometimes they write them because there really was something wrong. Bad reviews, although they tend to hurt restaurant's reputation a bit, are good feedback for restaurants because it tell them what they are doing wrong. Just read it over carefully, think about what to say, and always have a response for a bad review. It could help your restaurant in the end.
