Restaurant Social Media

Gang,

I'd like to discuss my recent blog post on the benefits of Social Media and get the groups idea's!

If you missed it here it is again.

Have I ever told you I love social media?! Years ago, I was introduced to my first social network…Myspace. Being the trend-spotter that I am, I was totally into it. The idea that I could gather my entire network in a single place online was orgasmic. Through Social Media I not only started new relationships, I rekindled and repaired old ones.

In addition to my music, it became a way I could just escape from my “real world.” I recall countless nights getting lost watching youtube videos, or stimulating my mind with FohBoh blogs and TR discussions. In a strange way, it grounded me.

Still, I couldn’t help but, at times, feel like I was wondering around in cyperspace for hours accomplishing nothing. Right around the time I posted “Top 10 Signs You’re Spending Too Much Time on FohBoh,” I started thinking, “I need social media rehab.”

It was then that I made a slight change in my approach, and focused my energy on leveraging the true power of Social Media (SM). Instead of just “flirting” with the concept and playing around online (which I still carve out time to enjoy). I started focusing my energy on how to leverage SM for my career and business. Engaging in Social Media is now one of the most productive things I do.

Here are my “Top Ten” tips (in no specific order) to leverage SM to benefit you professionally:

10. “Pimp your page” to brand yourself and represent the “professional, authentic you”. Check out Judy Asman’s post "5 Ways to Pimp Your Profile."

9. Bring your professional network online to your favorite SN spots. This allows you to communicate with everyone on one venue.

8. Invite people you want to know to join your network. SM allows us to connect, interact and make an impression on people we may never have had the opportunity to meet.

7. Jump in the conversation. Have “brain hook-ups” with strangers and share best practices. Do this often and with as many people as you can.

6. Network with other talent. I’m amazed at the scope of talent I get inspired by online…from Stoli Girl’s “Apron’s of Apathy,” to Chris Reeds “Under the Covers.” Examples of peoples insights I otherwise wouldn’t have been inspired by if it weren’t for SM (and Chris and I worked in the same building!).

5. Blog about your area(s) of expertise. Share your insights and experiences. This allows you the opportunity to give back to others and will position you as a “thought leader” in those areas and build your professional brand.

4. Develop mentoring relationships online. Through SM, anyone can be your mentor. And the relationship can be easy to maintain.

3. Recruit or Find YOUR next job using SM. There is a new group here "Ready to Work" where you can showcase your stuff. My #1 “career-change tactic” was blogging about being on the market.

2. Work and communicate out of groups. My Talent Revolution team has a Private “TR Dream Team” group on TR where all 12 of us work online. It’s a one-stop-shop for all of our communication updates and ideas.

1. Create your own “FohBoh-powered” Social Network. Increase retention by getting feedback from your workforce and ENGAGING them.

One of the biggest SM perks for me…“I’m so much cooler online…” This VIDEO cracks me up!

Share with the Group other ways you benefit from Social Media!!!

Getting involved in social media, and blogging especially, has really provided me with energy and inspiration that has carried over into other areas. My job kind of revolves around putting words together, but blogging has somehow opened my mind to getting the "untapped" ideas in my head out in the open.
