Ok of course I am going to be biased on this subject, but I would like to know everyone's opinon. As you can see in my profile, I sell computer systems and I often find it hard to explain to customers in a practical sense, why a POS system is so much better than a cash register. I can give them numbers and projectionss and tell them how much money it is going to save, but I still can't figure out why some still want to use a cash register. Please give me your views?
I am not sure how is about POS, I am trying to indrotuce a complementary software, reservations management systems, and my sales pitch is very similar to yours, savings, efficiency but the most common reply I get is something along the lines of, "I don´t want anything remotely complicated".
Many rest. decision makers, at least in my region, look for simplicity as the first decision making element, as as some have put it to, they would gladdly go back to pen & paper.
I sell a major brand of POS for Hospitality and these days i have less and less issues with POS vs. Cash Registers as most operators have realized the advantages of computerized systems. In places where I have had to go up against the cash register I have asked the potential client for a side by side competition. Have them run you thru a typical order and 9 out of 10 times you can blow away the cash register in speed and accuracy. Throw in high speed credit card authorization and its almost impossible to resist as faster transactions mean money in the bank!
Most people are intimidated with new technology. Sometimes, it's not about how much they will save by switching to a POS system, but how much they can maintain control in the operation. My old boss was only convinced to switch to a POS system when he found out he can get timely sales reports anytime of the day.
