I am still rather new in the food photography business and I want to make sure I make the right steps (if there are any) to get myself known in the industry and to start building a proper portfolio. I am still studying at the Fotovakschool in Amsterdam and will eventually specialize in commercial and advertising with the focus on culinary photography, but in the meantime I want to start working on getting myself out there.
The thing is that sofar I have been shooting my own food, but as I am sure you can tell, I am not a foodstylist and although I love cooking it's not always easy to build a portfolio from my own cooking. I've worked for a catering company once and sofar worked with a foodstylist once as well (free work not on assignment)
I was wondering if there is anyone out here who can give some helpful tips or steps that I could take to break into the business. Keep in mind though that foodstyling and foodphotography in the Netherlands is probably a little more underdeveloped than it is in the US. We have some great food photographers but not a lot as far as I can tell by looking into all the magazines.
To make a long story short; looking for help...:)
Thanks!
Simone
