I'm not sure I understand the question. I joined FohBoh b/c I'm actually doing a story on online social/professional networks in the food industry. I thought it would be a good idea to join as part of research and to get members' opinions on how useful these sites are. I've found it's actually a really interesting, useful way to meet other industry members -- media and non-media -- and make connections.

Sorry to be vague, for some reason I was thinking you were in marketing for a restaurant. You answered my question and I am very glad to hear this site is valuable for you. I like it. Not that you really asked but I will say, it is a very interesting way to stay in touch and connect with people I have known for years (and those I just met) all around the nation. So, where does one read these articles you are writing? You sound like they may pretty interesting! You should post a url of an article or two! I would love to check it out.

Hi Denise. I see this is a relatively old post and comment ... maybe you've moved on, but I'll soldier ahead here just the same.

I am not sure that what we think of as PR is the intended result of this place - as PR tends to be one-way: I plant something that brings attention, as single intended result - an explosion of interest. I think the web is more suited to two way linkage: a conversational, rather than mind-bomb-over-the-wall approach to making an impact. This is connected to a very traditional idea of what markets are ( see the Cluetrain Manifesto).

lol. Maybe I'm just an old trad PR person in disguise, trying to insinuate your interest. I work, after all, for a company that makes software for the casual catering industry. But I am involved in social media - we recently branched out into social media and I am supposedly leading the charge; this is part of my, and our company's, voyage of discovery.
