If you were opening a restaurant in Atlanta where would you go for information on purchasing equipment, supplies and food? What publications are there in Georgia that have this type of information? Any thoughts?
Thanks for the response. I looked at the website for your restaurant too and could not find your address anywhere on the site. Was this an oversight or by design? I am curious. Please look at my website www.trnusa.com to view examples of my two publications.
Restaurant Forum is the official magazine of the Georgia Restaurant Association and publishes an annual Supplier Directory. The magazine's companion web site is RestaurantINFORMER.com and it includes a complete list of suppliers organized by product category. Both are excellent sources for restaurant equipment, suppliers, and purveyors.
Hey Howard,
this may not solve your equipment supply concerns; however, please consider the investment of food safety training for your primary and secondary food handling staff. If you are considering opening or expanding your operations, let me take this opportunity to feed into your consciousness the beneficial qualities of third party auditing services. It is a valuable asset in saving your establishment Time, Money and Resources. Check out www.food4-thought.net. Thank you and happy hunting..
Thanks for the information. Yes, food safety concerns are very important to all restaurant operators. Please visit my website www.trnusa.com to view samples of Today's Restaurant News, the trade newspapers for Florida and Texas. If you do business outside of Georgia we may be able to help.
Hi Howard,
Many of the chefs in town purchase meat from Star Provisions. Vegatables are often sourced from farmer's markets on Buford Hwy or the Dekalb Farmer's Market. Fish is a different story. Chefs have it shipped directly here in the belly of Delta jets at 40 degrees from places like Hawaii or Seattle. There are a number of suppliers of Gulf raised products for crab and shrimp. There is also a local farmer who specializes in microgreens who will deliver direct and supplies places like Whole Foods, the Fresh Market, and the Dekalb Farmer's Market. Of course Georgia raises a heck of a lot of chichen as well as the home of Springer Mountain Farms. I don't represent any of them, of course. I just hear about these places when I take cooking classes at The Cook's Warehouse (owned by Mary Moore).
howard,
Sysco foods of atlanta is the number one food distributor in the US, and here in Atlanta they have a strong presence. you can find your source for all food catagories and restaurant support through the I-cares program, everything from credit card processing, marketing, pest control, and more. large and small equiptment, smallwares etc. check out the website syscoatlanta.com
I work for an online retailer of restaurant equipment, furniture and supplies, based in Atlanta. ACityDiscount.com sells a huge variety of new equipment that ships directly from the manufacturer. Used equipment and furniture, which can be an inexpensive option when opening a new restaurant, or another type of foodservice operation, is also available through the website for a set price, or auctioned on eBay.
I read Foodservice Equipment & Supplies (fesmag.com), a national publication, to keep up-to-date with the latest product releases and equipment reviews.
