Don't you just love it when a restaurant goes beyond your wildest expectations? Let me present to you.... Broadway Grill & Cabaret. The newest inhabitant of the old Chicago's Steak House location situated on Roswell Road in a strip center just outside of 285. This restaurant is being run by the former staff of Carbo's Cafe (the 24 year old Atlanta/Buckhead institution, renamed "Chastains" that went up in flames recently (yes, I know this is getting confusing) The team includes Chef Craig Kiefaber who is also General Manager, Mark Pekar-Manager and Reuben Rodriguez-Kitchen Manager.
The beloved bartenders Billy Morford & Robert Cozine are there to greet you and they rise to the top of Atlanta's finest pourer's in my book...always attentive and always fun. Architect Hank Schwab and Daria Willson are running the show and they have been pouring their hearts and souls into this new adventure. During a treacherous and daring time in the restaurant business...they just want to show you a good time.
For many months, The Broadway Grill & Cabaret has been gradually pulling together their concept, painstakingly phase by phase, trying to get their signage up, re-vamping, decorating & painting. After my first visit, I had concerns as to whether they would meet their destination because it's really rough terrain out there in restaurant world. Much to my surprise, on my second visit, things were rolling along nicely. I walked in the door and everything looked fresh and jazzy. The bar looked inviting, the live music was at the perfect volume and the place was packed with a good-looking adult crowd (and there was some excellent singles mingling going on as well!).
You have choices to dine in a private area of the restaurant or you can be served where the action is going on in the lounge. We naturally chose to hear the live music and watch people while we dined. We were seated at a linen clothed table and we settled in to review the menu. It really popped with some interesting dishes and we quickly saw many things that we wanted to try. Meanwhile…the waiter delivered those luscious beignet-type rolls with real butter and I was well on my way to getting’ happy. Next the owner (Hank, who is almost always on site), approached our table with a new complimentary creation he wanted us try. It was a fresh hot pinwheel of flaky pastry layered with spicy ground beef. For our appetizer, we tried the Oysters Broadway (bacon, red onions, spinach and blue cheese) and this was surprisingly delicious! I would most definitely order them again. Oysters were fresh, blue cheese was gooey warm, bacon bits were crispy and it was very unique and flavorful.
Since the financial meltdown, we've been on a budget so I ordered the Chicken Parmesan and fried asparagus. Wow! I was very, very pleased with my meal. The red sauce was robust, chunky and full of flavor and the chicken breast was thick and satisfying with a nice dollop of mozzarella crowning the glorious presentation. In true foodie style, I haven't stopped thinking about the fried asparagus since Wednesday night...yum!!!!!
Entertainment goes on several nights a week with the piano bar (featuring Buckhead favorites Charlie Marshall & Gary Narramore). Broadway Grill & Cabaret frequently tries new entertainment, fun themes, DJ's, bands and more so be sure to get on their email calender list.
I had my doubts about this restaurant, but I tell you...this experience made me think twice...let's cross our fingers and give our applause to Chef Craig and our warmest regards to Broadway Grill & Cabaret. By all means drop in for a meal and some live entertainment....good restaurants are hard to find. They might just be the little train that could!
