Biggest problems can be tackled various ways. First there is the financials relating to Food & Beverage, Labor and Other Controllable costs. Yes there are various programs available in the market and developed to help enterpreneurs control these. Then there are the sales & marketing challenges of increasing sales. Translated this would mean Increasing Guest frequency, Bringing Guests in larger party sizes and having them refer their friends and family. This again is futile if you cannot take care of the guests that you already have.
Finally is Time Management and having the ability and capability to do all the right hires.
These are just hitting the few that come to my mind. An entire book can be written on restaurant management challenges.
The last part of your question is how can technology help. Technology can set in systems but the day you take away the personal aspect of restaurant management, you will cease to have a restaurant any longer.
