Restaurant Social Media

Hi Everybody,

This is my first post on FohBoh... I love the site, but it's taking a while to get used to the layout since I'm more accustomed to traditional forums. As a result, I hope that my post adheres to the community guidelines and is placed in the correct category. If not, I truly apologize.

Anyway, I have what I believe to be a very simple question, and I think this is the perfect community to be asking it, so here goes:

Do you, as a restaurant owner, believe that your food is the best around when compared to your local competition?

In other words, if you run a local pizza joint, do you honestly think your pizza is better than any other pizza joint in town?

If you were just a customer, would you prefer pizza from your restaurant or a competitor's?

This question is based upon your food only, not price/value/service etc.

In your response, if you could please include your restaurant's main cuisine (pizza, sushi, Mexican, steaks, burgers etc.) and why you believe your's is the best, or not the best, I would really appreciate it.

I'm curious how many restaurant owners truly believe their product is the best, and how many aren't so sure.

I'm hoping for replies from small business owners (Koko's Burgerama etc.), with just one location or a small number of locations, as opposed to franchise owners (Pizza Hut etc.)

Thanks!

Absolutely. My Grandfather opened Denton's Diner in then tiny Morristown, Tennessee. As I grew up my grandfather always ate his restaurant's food. Jokingly he would hassle other family members about eating at franchise and chain restaurants. I find myself jokingly hassling family about eating elsewhere now that I'm older. Bottom line: My grandfather made the best burgers. He knew it. He ate them religiously.
Thanks for your reply Dustin.

I asked this question on another forum as well (since this one doesn't get as much traffic as I expected), and one of the replies was:

"Nobody is going to tell you their restaurant products suck compared to the competitors. Why would they be in business with that type of thinking? That's for the patron's to determine."

My response was that I expect most replies to be from owners/cooks/chefs who are confident that their product is the best in their area, or even the world; however, I wanted to give some the opportunity to step back and honestly ask themselves if they believe that to be true.

I look forward to more discussion here on FohBoh.
Ha, just found the forum you posted on. I thought a simple answer would be the best answer. Truthfully, I think he had the best burgers because it was his creation and not the same burger every Ruby Tuesday's has for $8.99...
