I am curious what the latest attire for wait staff is for fine dining restaurants.
Don't you think the oxford and tie is so 80's? The all black is overplayed as well.
What's next?
Any ideas?

I think a good fit is key also. The right fit can make you look AND FEEL professional rather than frumpy.
Honestly, I've never worked in a restaurant that used all black where the waiters weren't absolutely filthy. When you have a black uniform, it's easy to touch it up with hot water (or black coffee hides stains better) and you can go weeks without washing it. Disgusting.
Permalink Reply by Michele Wagaman on December 28, 2011 at 11:17am I completely agree, Ian. I used to work at a restaurant that required an all-black uniform, and some of my coworkers would extend their washes as much as possible. It was awful to work with. The uniform at my current restaurant is white shirt/tie, and black pants. I feel like this is a simple, and classic restaurant uniform.
Or you could just ditch the tie, and go white button up and black slacks. Also a good look!
I understand you said all black is overplayed but depending what your chefs are wearing, black chef coats for foh (short sleeve) have a good sleek look to them.
Permalink Reply by Jonathan Schneider on December 28, 2011 at 11:29am No matter what attire you choose there has been one important component to the uniform standard that has been historically overlooked... what the waiter uses to take a guests order. Usually, servers are left to their own devices to come up with something to house all their credit card slips, cash, order pad, specials, POS swipe card etc.. Usually they make use of an extra check presenter, which 99% of the time looks like a disorganized, cluttered mess. We have a revolutionary product that has been taking the industry by storm... the Waiter Wallet. It not only organizes servers but it finally provides a professional way for servers to interface with their guests.
