How do you use the Web for your business? Update: menugem has launched

UPDATE:  This is just a friendly reminder that our website has officially launched, and is fully functional for everyone to use.  Thank you!!

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a website that will cater to restaurant owners, and I'm trying to get to know my audience.
If you could offer any insight by answering these questions, I would really appreciate it.

Being that I am starting at the ground level, I have an opportunity to do things differently.
That's why I'm asking for input.

- How do you primarily use the Web to promote your business? Email blasts? Do you have your own website?

- If you do not currently have a presence online, what are the biggest barriers that have prevented you from doing so?

- What kind of service would you be interested in that you cannot currently do on the web in a convenient fashion?

By the way, this is my site, if anyone is interested in checking it out.

Thanks a lot for your time! I hope to hear feedback from you.

What is the goal of the website? What are you going to offer that is different than others? To me these are the questions I would ask myself before getting started in the sea of websites on the web.
How are you going to drive traffic to the site? Don't tell me about website optimization, not everyone can be number 1-10.

Take a look at my website www.trnusa.com. Not the fanciest but it is easy to use and has a purpose. My newspaper drives the traffic to the site. The ocean is wide and deep with the wrecks of websites that have sunk. Be clear in your intent. Tell us what your idea is and then tell us again and again.

Good luck with the venture. If I can help give me a call 561 620-8888.
Howard,

Hello. That's very nice of you to offer your contact information and advice! I will definitely be in touch.

The stated mission of my site is to help restaurants put their menus online, and to allow food enthusiasts to discuss their favorite foods.

There is a lot I plan to do in order to differentiate my site from the rest. However, I'd like to wait until it is launched and active before I go into the specifics.

I did check out your site and I think it's great, mixing print media with new media. I'm definitely interested in learning more about the industry. What is a good time to reach you?
Usually in the late afternoon Eastern time.
Hello everyone,

The website has been coming along.
We have added exclusive content - our own articles on the restaurant business.
If you are interested in keeping in touch, please pre-register for our site.

And we are still looking for restaurant owners to interview!

Cool site!
I'll be interested to see more when you launch. But the first few articles are quite interesting. Keep up the good work!

Hi,
As a restaurant equipment company, ACityDiscount uses email campaigns, social media and our website to promote the business. We think it's very important to stay atop of the current trends in the online retail industry and marketing world. One of the best ways to stay ahead of the game is by taking note of who your audience is. When you are aware of what your customers want, you are more likely to satisfy their needs. Visit www.acitydiscount.com to learn more about our company.

Hi Everyone,

This is just a friendly reminder that our website has officially launched, and is fully functional for everyone to use.

To the FohBoh moderators, this is not a purely promotional post, just a continuation of this discussion.  Thanks a lot and I appreciate your help!

I am building a website called www.diningtimes.com, but I am still having problems looking for featured restaurants, I am offering the service for free but there is no interest, how do I convince the restaurant owners???

Miguel,  I did notice that there is nothing up on your site as of right now.  Don't wait for anyone.  Go ahead and start putting content up, and make it the best content you can.  That way you can show these businesses exactly what you can do.  And who knows, maybe later they will come to you!
