Restaurant Social Media

Does the sustainable food movement pose a threat to the restaurant community?

Take a look at the video of Michael Pollan on the Daily Show with John Stewart.  I just added it to FohBoh's mainpage.

What do you think?  Is he too far to the left?  Are his views too radical and game-changing for the foodservice community?

What do you think?

No comments?? I think that to argue that his viewpoint is too "far to the left" (does that mean out of mainstream??) is to confirm that restaurant food is not real food.

The fact that this question is being posed (and not to take personal aim at you, Michael, this is after all your job!) is a warning sign. A guy who says "eat real food" and just like your mom manipulates you to eat her food, restaurants do too. That's a threat?

This guy shines a light on the illogical acts of our population. One that resents "big government telling them what to do" (eat) and how to do it (how much) so much so that it's deserving of an outcry. But a physician's prescription of a half dozen meds to be taken for the rest of one's life is perfectly fine... or that stents are a perfectly reasonable solution to coronary artery disease.

I think he's doing us (all of us, not just this industry) a favor.

Is this a threat or is it an opportunity for restaurants? In fact, Pollan even says as much.

I challenge this community to take on one of his statements rather than label them one way or another.
