I'm looking for the answer to a question that is puzzling me... Can you make an elaborately decorated wedding cake that is angel food cake flavored?
I know from experience b/c angel food is my fav. kind of cake that it is difficult to put icing on it and you can only use certain kinds.
I'm curious. so is it possible?
Thanks!

anybody? anybody????? you can't tell me no one has advice for this situation...
Kristin,
I have found that unless you have an extremely talented cake maker/decorator, getting a cake that both looks stellar and tastes great is difficult at best. In order to get a cake to stand up to elaborate decorating, you usually have to start with a base cake that is more dence and dry. This is counter intuitive to cakes that taste good (which usually are very moist and even "soaked" with more flavoring agents to lock in moisture).
What I did for my wedding, was to have a small perfectly decorated showpiece cake for my bride and myself and also have a drop dead, out of this world flavor packed sheet cake right beside it to serve from. This way you can truly "have your cake and eat it too".
I hope this helps.
If anything, this reply may inspire some of the more qualified professional bakers to counter what I have just said.
Hi Kristin!

Firstly It totally depends what kind of cake you want. If you want a tiered cake its definitly a NO GO.. But you can get these sexy racks now for wedding cakes so taht the cake is actually layered but on its on stands..

as for decorating.. My fav thing to do to angel food.. SLOPPY loose icing as acrumb coat.. freeze then decorate or throw some rolled fondant on :)

but angel food cake.. hrmm i would personally do something a lil more cute like a nice fake wedding cake and make osme angel food cake cupcakes :) decorated nicely!
