I am having trouble trusting my HVAC/Refrigeration company. We have a contract for monthly preventative maintenance and use the same company for needed repairs. I always worry about the inherent conflict of interest in this type of arrangement.
I'm considering taking all but the most basic repairs such as gasket replacement and anything that can be done in an hour, and bidding the jobs out over at least two companies.
Does anyone else have this concern? Anybody have a good way of handling this service (works the same for kitchen equipment maintenance also) so you can sleep at night knowing you're not getting ripped off?
Maintenance contracts have always been a mixed bag in my experience. I have worked for a commercial kitchen equipment parts & service company for about 8 years now (www.cpsohio.com) and, before that, for several chains.
There has to be a relationship that you can call on whenever you have a question or concern. The problem with most large-scale or national service contract companies is that they lose touch with the local aspect and the face of the companies that do business with them. Many of them get the contract signed and then the only person you talk to or see is the technician or some CSR that picks up when you call.
You may have better luck working with a local service company that offers a maintenance contract. Our company belongs to CFESA, which is an association of independent service agents throughout the USA.
Sorry this response is a bit dated, but I don't spend a lot of time here. I will try to stay more involved.
Good luck David.
