More and more restaurants are hopping on the band wagon. I have seen some creative marketing promotions done via Twitter.

What have you done? What have you seen?

Hi Mary, im not really into advertising but I found this while googling around :) i just thought this might be helpful to you:

The best way to advertise on Twitter is to connect with people who are in the same niche.

100K followers don't give you any benefit if they don't read your tweet. Give your follower what they are looking for is the best way to get traffic and get mentioned. Always try to use your real web site link in your tweet. Using shorten link won't give you any good result, because people don't like to go somewhere they don't trust. Your tweet frequency and timing are also important. Find out the best time people read and response your tweet. Many local shoppers are reading tweet in the afternoon before they go home and before dinner or lunch. Every niche are different. So find your own best practice.

Using your real URL can indirectly bring you some SEO benefit. Many people who follow your tweet are posting the live stream on their web site. It indirectly bring your web name to more readers and search engines.

Hi Mary,

Although my company isn't a restaurant, we recently hopped on the social media band wagon. From the looks of it, It seems like more and more restaurants are using social media as a way to spread the word quickly about special Twitter-only discounts and limited time promotions. I'm not sure if this would help, but you can check out what restaurants are tweeting about from this list of 750 restaurants that are on Twitter: http://www.shoppingblog.com/twitterrestaurantdirectory/

Good luck,

Alyson
Alyson -
That is a great list - thanks so much for sharing it with me. Warmest, M
Twitter is great for restaurant promotions. I recently wrote an article about it. I run a website called eMeal Alerts and use it to promote restaurants (both National and Local) by giving them a free arena to promote their value deals and promotions, and then it gets posted to Twitter. It seems to be working well.
