I have trouble spelling EFCA out as it is a scary joke. And apparently it is not the only thing that is out there that we should be concerned with. The LEAN Act, the Syrup tax...to most restaurants these things could severly damage, if not destroy a Brand.
I am curious if anyone knows or has insights on where I can find information about these things? Specifically on how, as a Brand we can become involved in fighting and coming up with solutions to these problems.
These are HUGE items for the food service industry, but yet they do not seem to be talked about a whole lot. This site alone I can only find 3 discussion boards to EFCA and no talk about the latter two.
If anyone has any helpful suggestions they will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I have to agree that the Syrup Tax is a bit much. It is well known that businesses and individuals pay plenty of taxes already without adding more for specific food items. I have looked and can find nothing about it on the federal level and could only find specific states that are attempting to use this tax.
The LEAN Act could become a problem if it gets too specific. One local restaurant chain (Ted's Montana Grill) has a full book that can be requested that gives all the nutritional information, ingredients, and allergens in their menu items. Since I am gluten-free it gives me the confidence to order from their menu and makes me a loyal customer. See it at http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c110:S.3575
EFCA is the most frightening thing to come around in years. I fear that it will prey on not only restaurateurs, but wholesalers and distributors as well. I am sure that if it passes and goes into effect there will be opportunists out there that will use fear and misinformation to bully an uninformed class of workers into a "contract" they do not need.
