Now i ate at Mas with my roommate the other night, despite some sub par reviews, i think Mas is terribly underrated. The night we dined we sat at the bar, to which they serve the complete menu. The atmosphere was cozy, and the staff very knowledgeable about the food, and drinks. They were all in top form that night also, i might add.

The first course was his signature dish, Blackfin tuna flash cooked with the burre noisette, crispy shallots, (the sauce made the dish, me thinks) Somehow i just figure blackfin tuna is a little lean for my taste, it doesent seem as creamy as i usually like my tuna.

My roommate received a stuffed, roasted vine rippend tomato stuffed with pine nuts, im pretty sure it was topped with oregano, and basil, with a little drizzle of olive oil, and an infused (i have a terrible memory outside of work, im not trying to butcher this review i swear!!) green oil. This dish was definitely a winner, it was so simple, using a very seasonal ingredient and brining out its natural flavors.

My next course was entrees I was hankerin the pork belly and low and behold it came!!! Tender as hell, and tasty to boot, but with many of the dishes i sampled i noticed it was not really the main course that struck me, it was more the little tid bits on the side, for example, there were cherries on the plate with the pork belly, the cherries must have been braised with chilies and a pork jus or something, it was good none the less, especially with the stinging nettle spetzle, who doesent like spetzle. The dish was all in all a success.

The monkfish went to my roommate, im alittle bitter about this dish, until now we were spilting our dishes so we could try alittle bit of everything. Now my roommate has cooked at Per Se, Bouley, blah blah blah, everyones made their rounds some time or another. Anyways!!! he pounded his monkfish, i dident even look at it for more then like 10 seconds, he loved it so much he inhaled it. I dident receive a spec, apparently he says "hands down the best monkfish he has ever had"

Also as a share the Ravioli of Goat Cheese, Lemon Zest & Parsley Sugar Snap Pea Sauce & Beet Oil came out also, at the same time as both entrees. I think this dish needed alittle pine nut..... I thought it was a good dish, but nothing i havent had before.... But seasonality wise, good idea......?

So Deserts I am not a big fan of sure AT All, i rarely ever eat deserts, but the bartender insisted i try the strawberry tart. My roommate had the Valrhona Chocolate Torte on a Chocolate Sableé Bittersweet Chocolate Sauce, Cocoa Nibs & Espresso Ice Cream, i dident try the chocolate dish... not a big fan anymore, not that i don`t eat chocolate but i just wasent that hungry. However the StraWberry tart with a gelee... i forget what type it was, with a chamomile ice cream was Excellent, absolutely awesome and amazing, it wasent anything new, but it was very well done. (and i don`t even like deserts.)

The prices were a bit high i may add, but definitely worth trying 3-6 times..... at Least! =P

CheerS!
