Restaurant Social Media

My good friends David and Terra own an amazing restaurant and bar in Colorado. They have owned the restaurant for a couple of years and do a steady business of mostly repeat customers. That's good. They don't have a web-site yet - that's not so good. I constantly obsess about all of the opportunities that they are missing because of it.

Below is a partial list of how they could use it. What other ideas do you have? I would like to send them a complete list - hopefully it will inspire them = )

Build an email list
Take reservations online
Post their hours
Have a copy of their menu
Announce upcoming events and specials
Promote Happy Hour
Post pictures and video of customers
Announce guests birthdays
Blog
Post pictures of the food and dinning rooms
Have contests

Here is a great post about making a successful restaurant web-site http://rohitbhargava.typepad.com/weblog/2006/02/making_a_succes.html

...and interact and engage with your customer with two way dialog.
Awesome suggestion - thanks for taking the time to add to the conversation - M
Exactly!
That's why we're building an application to help restaurants engage and communicate with customers.
Here's a sneak peek:

They could list a catering menu if they cater. They could also list community involvement, recent press and/or musical or other guests and entertainment. Perhaps they would want to share non-signature recipes also.
A map to their place.
Application for employment
Contact information (on every page)
Video is becoming very big
Don't forget WebCams. It depends on the venue, but the younger crowds like to show off & if their peers see fun happening, they are more likely to search out that place & join in.
Great post! Building a website can also generate additional income for the website owners through ads :)
Just having a web presence provides incredible exposure to audiences who use the Internet to help in their restaurant information gathering and decision making process. To reach this target audience it boils down to 'out of 'site', out of mind'.
Surveys and guest feedback (could even look at Twitter or Facebook if it that's where their guests are). It's really just about using the web to have a conversation.
I agree. Restaurants should have a website. Now a days a lot of restaurants use social network sites like myspace and facebook to promote their services. They can then post their restaurant website address as a link on their myspace or facebook profile, which can add additional traffic.
Just posting hours, phone number and menu would help bring in more business!
When I travel to an unfamiliar city, I always research the web to find the best dining experiences there. Restaurants that have websites are more memorable to me once I get there and therefore usually get my business.
