I have recently opened an upscale Sushi Restaurant in Atlanta. We are located just blocks away from all the major attractions in Atlanta, as well as neighborhing very large businesses such as Coke and CNN. A lot of our business feeds off conventions from the Georgia World Congress Center. But during off times we need to be able to bring in locals. I have done all the online listings as well as use In E mail Marketing. All this has worked out but still no big change. Is there something else i can do to reach out to locals? How long does it take for the online listings to start benifiting ( google, yahoo, city search)? If anyone has any suggestions that may show more instant turnouts, please i would love to hear about them.
Start collecting information about your customers by having them fill out cards at the table. Once you have information including their birthday, address and email address you can offer them specials or discounts that will bring them in with their friends. I have seen this work countless times. Contact me and I will put you in touch with an ex restaurant owner/chef who has designed such a program that has been sussessful and used by leading restaurants. It sounds perfect for you.

There's a lot of great ways to get your name out within the Atlanta market. I used to work with the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce - which is located in Centennial Olympic Park. One way to be able to market to many of the business owners in Atlanta is to contact the people who do special events for the Chamber of Commerce. I used to work in special events there and we worked with many restaurant operators on having them cater our events for free in exchange in allowing them to advertise their services at these events. It would be a great way to get access to business owners both in the downtown area and out of the area and give them a "taste" of your food.
You definitely need to start compiling a list of your customers . Your customers can help you bring in more customers by coming in with their friends or co-workers .
The competition is stiff and so you have to try to stand out .
Get feedback from your diners - Survey them and ask them about their experiences and if there is something they want more of or don't like etc . You need repeat loyal customers that spread the word . You have to connect with the diners especially the loyal ones because they are the ones that will come back with their friends and write reviews for you .. I know its hard but in these early months you have to pay more attention to the people that come in and out so that they feel special ..
