HOBE SOUND, Fla. -- A Treasure Coast restaurant server said she was offered a $50,000 boat as a tip.

Cindy Brown was waiting tables at the Catfish House in Hobe Sound when she said a longtime customer offered her the boat as a tip.

"I said, 'You're kidding, right?'" she said. "I cried and cried, because I'd just lost my boat in Hurricane Wilma. I love to fish."

Brown took care of Don Longa's parents when they came into the restaurant, but she said she never expected anything like the big tip in return.

She said she's glad to know there are still generous people out there who care.

ORANGEVALE - The times are tough, the economy is suffering and a lot of people are out of work. Still, people are giving this holiday season, and Tori Goodwin can't wait to tell the world about how she was touched by a kind gesture.

The wife and mother of a fifteen-month-old has worked at the Denny's in Orangevale for two years. After waiting on a table of twelve, the customers gave her a $25 tip.

But they also gave her a Christmas card before they left.

"They were walking and I could tell they were looking at me, and I could tell they wanted me to open it," Goodwin said. "But I didn't want to open it in front of them."

Inside the card: $400 cash.

"So I peeked inside and there was a stack of bills. I ran out and gave them all hugs and just started crying."

Goodwin says this gift came at the right time -- she and her husband did not have enough money to pay the rent.

Goodwin hopes that one day she can pay this favor forward.
Lotto 6/49 Winner Keeps Promise, Gives Waitresses $30,000 A Piece
Last week, Jorma Hogbacka of St. Catherines, made good on his word to two of the waitresses at his local coffee shop. He gave them certified cheques for $30,000 each, just for getting his order right.
by ■ Carolyn E. Price http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/266200

"A small double-double without the trouble!" was the catchphrase the 60-year old retired semi-retired welder used to say whenever he ordered his coffee at the St. Catharines Tim Horton's. After picking up his cheque at the Ontario Lottery Corp's office last Monday, Hogbacka said that he was planning on sharing his winnings with six ladies who used to serve him coffee on a daily basis and always get his order right. "I promised them, but do you think they believed me?"

Well, I can say definitively that two of those original six ladies are definite believers. Yesterday, Hogbacka gave Melissa Grivich, 24, of Welland and Sithorn Chuon, 24, of St. Catharines their tip, a cheque in the amount of $30,000, scribbled with the words "Have a nice day" on them.

Grivich is quoted as saying:

"I'm like in absolute shock. I served coffee, and I guess it just goes to show that customer service is everything, and yeah ... it's crazy. I can't believe it."

Chuon has not worked at the Tim Horton's for years but she did remember Hogbacka. There are four other lucky women out there who Hogbacka only knew by their first names: Tanya, Jessica, Meredith and Glenda and the staff at the Tim Horton's shop are trying to connect with them.

The astonishing bar bill included two methuselah of Dom Perignon champagne at £9,000 each, and four jeroboam of Crystal champagne costing £4,500 each. A methuselah is eight times the normal bottle size, and a jeroboam four times.

The unnamed banker arrived at Maya, a nightclub in London's Soho, with four friends. He then ordered a total of 16 bottles of champagne from the drinks menu, which were shared with other guests.

His bill came to £43,067.50. A 15 per cent service charge, which amounted to £5,617.50, all went to the lucky waitress, who was called Anna.

The banker's group, which included men and women, drank until 1.30am before he picked up the tab for his friends on a credit card.

Maya was hosting a party after the Brit Awards and is a venue popular with soap stars and Premiership footballers.

Other visitors have included actress Sienna Miller and singer Rihanna and the club operates a New York-style door policy where only those who the management deem "connected, fashionable and interesting enough" are allowed in. The club motto is: "If you're not inside you're outside."

A club source said: "The guy comes here regularly. He and his guests were clearly not taking any notice of the recession."

What was drunk:
5 x bottle of Louis Roederer Cristal 99 Champagne - £350 each
3 x Magnum of Cristal Rose Champagne - £1,900 each
2 x Methusalem of Dom Perignon Champagne - £9,000 each
4 x Jeroboam of Belvedere Vodka - £750 each
2 x Jeroboam of Crystal Champagne - £4,500 each
15% service charge - £5,617.50
Total - £43,067.50
Man Leaves Redding Waitress $2,100 in Tips

Monica Flatto was serving breakfast at the "Braided Mane" restaurant in Redding on Friday the 13th, when the day turned very lucky for her.

A man ordered oatmeal and eggs. At the end of the meal, he left Flatto a tip of $100 for an $8 bill. The next day, the same man came in and ordered the same thing. This time he left Flatto a tip of $1,000. Before he left, Flatto stopped him to ask why he was doing this. "He just told me that he was doing it for him, and not for me and asked if I understood that. And I got emotional."

Flatto go emotional because usually a good day for her means making barely $100.

The struggling Shasta College student was barely getting by. "I've been worried about making all my bills and everything. And this just makes me so comfortable for the rest of the semester. And it's just amazing and you can have hope."

On Sunday, the man came in, this time helping himself to the buffet. And once again, he left Flatto another tip of $1,000.

All that we know about him is that he was in town to speak at a conference. Flatto sent him a "Thank You" card to his room at the Holiday Inn. She says the money will help her finances for the rest of the semester.

A woman from Gresham, Oregon, is fighting to save the lives of her twin boys, and she just got a big boost from a customer.

Tracey Shaffer works at a restaurant, and faces an uphill battle in trying to obtain treatment for her sick sons, Nate and Nick.

Her employer set up a fundraiser, where customers could eat and give their tips to Shaffer's family.

One customer decided to give a tip to remember. Shaffer says, "So that lady decided to get up from her family dinner and wrote a check for $10,000. I couldn't believe it."

Shaffer's sons suffer from a rare genetic disease known as ALD. It attacks the adrenal glands, nervous system and the brain.

The twins are due to get life-saving treatment at a hospital in Baltimore which specializes in ALD.

Shaffer says the generosity of that customer and others who helped, will give her the courage to keep fighting for her boys.

Johnny Depp gave a waiter the surprise of his life when he left him a 4,000 dollar tip.
The heartthrob splashed the cash after enjoying a lavish meal at a Chicago restaurant with cast and crew from his new movie Public Enemies.
The group's bill came to 4,400 dollars and after paying, generous Johnny forked out the hefty tip for waiter Mohammed A Sekhani, reports the Chicago Sun-Times.
Sekhani later told RadarOnline.com: "He may be one of the most famous actors in the world but he is a very humble guy and a really cool dude."
The waiter said Johnny and his pals - including his Public Enemies co-star Marion Cotillard - dined on shrimp cocktails and clams and said the star "ordered some 500 dollar bottles of Italian wine".
Sekhani said the unexpected windfall was split between several members of staff at Gibson's Steakhouse.
