FohBoh gang, I need your help! I'm writing another top 10 list that I'll be sharing during the manager conference I'm speaking at this Tuesday. (yes I'm a little last minute)

What are your pet peeves about interviewERs? Think back to Recruiters or Employers that you have interviewed with, what did they do that turned you off, rubbed you the wrong way or drove you crazy?

"Lack of candor about a company. If a company is having difficulty, don't lie about it. There is so much information out there, I will find out. And, I do my homework."

I recently interviewed at the WC Hotel in New Orleans. They just got a new Chef and of course his picture is proudly displayed on the website and of course he is holding a glass of wine. They could have at least put a bottle and some crudite in the picture with him.

I'm guessing they told the new chef ... Hey, we need a picture ... so he runs over and says ... hold on, let me get some booze. LOL!

I interviewed with the Director of Food and Beverage, a very nice guy. My interviews were initiated by a Human Resources employee, a very nice guy. The HR employee called the Director and told him that "his interview was here". They sent two other people filling out applications home before the HR employee finally walked up to me and said, "I think you'll be a great fit here at WC Hotel". I had really high hopes for getting the job and felt I had a great interview.

The HR employee told me that the Director of FB was going to interview me for a server position because the manager of their premiere restaurant was on vacation for a week.

HUGE LIE.

The manager had quit due to yelling and screaming and cursing and arguments with guess who ... the new Chef.

You folks who do interviews I mean GET a GRIP in New Orleans. We KNOW, we TALK amongst one another online, in craigslist.org and on social networks.

I got a form letter rejection for my candidacy for the server position.

When an interviewer lies about ANYTHING to a candidate for employment you set the tone for the ENTIRE interview and that tone is dishonesty.

So if your candidate is espousing great work ethic and honesty, your candidate is your worst enemy as what has come out of your mouth in the interview is lies.

If a liar is inteviewing you, the liar candidate will get the job because they will both feel comfortable with one another and they will connect.
When an inteviewer calls you in based on your resume and then the first thing out of his mouth is:

Well, what I really want is what's behind the bar ... see that hot chick?

So I say to the guy, what the hell did you have me come down here for if you want boobs hanging out of a blouse? And another thing, do you often drink alcoholic beverages AT YOUR INTERVIEWS?

Folks, I'm telling you, New Orleans is EVIL.

This interview I'm telling you about was at a respectable Hotel in the Central Business District.

The guy literally choked on a swallow of his beer and nearly blew foam out his nose. He was obviously going to get nasty with me until I stood up and took a few steps closer to his face and he then realized he was a 130 pound rail skinny drunk and I was ... well ... I was the guy in the starched shirt and tie with clear eyes at 185 trim looking him straight in the eyes.

I mean ... NEW ORLEANS!

Clean up your ACT !
Not really an interview (yet) but a person is anxious to talk to me..
I give some dates of ok times. Not agreeable with them. Then I never hear anything.
Should I contact them again ?
I've left several phone messages and a couple of emails.
Pet Peeves...what more can be said that isn't already posted.
1. Interviewers who douse themselves in cologne/perfume. I have allergies and so do a lot of others.
2. The interviewer saying they'll call in 2 days with their hiring decision and they never do. Then, when you call them they apologize profusely saying that they decided to go with someone else or that they decided not to hire anyone at this time.
3. Lying, or not knowing anything about the company culture.

There are probably more, just haven't had a lot of time to think of them. Will add more though!
