Restaurant Social Media

We talk about how important it is to engage guests, but let's be more specific. What are we saying, where are we saying it, how are we saying it, and who are we saying it to?

Here's a few from the Bees:

"OK, so I would love to know, who decided where to go to lunch today?" -The two women laugh, there's quick banter about how they can never decide where to go, and one tells me she was craving an oriental salad.

"Hi there! So when was the last time you visited us?" -Older couple, looking at the menu, then eachother, say the last time was a few months ago, at a location in Arizona. They are driving through the CA area. We talk briefly of Phoenix. "The last time I was there, the news guy said, "It will be 'cooling down' to 108 tomorrow," I say jokingly. They laugh, and ended up ordering a margarita I had suggested.

"Before I go any further, may I offer my deepest sympathy." Night after the Celtics won. Man wearing a Lakers' jersey. True fans wear colors the next day. By the time his friend joins him, he's halfway through his wings, and we were onto baseball, which prompted another opportunity with a guest nearby wearing an Angels hat.

"Best baseball movie ever, Bull Durham or Major League?" Bad News Bears!

I could go on, but now it's your turn. Engage us!

"On behalf of the staff and our 401k... I cannot possibly thank you enough for choosing us instead of that other nice restaurant you were also considering!"

I use it often.

Always talk to and engage the kids as though they were paying. Get them to color you a picture. Then hang it up with them before they leave. They will want to come back and ask for you!

“Now remember, I am Andi and when you come to "Restaurant Name", ask for me and we'll color some more.”

Different sources say approx 35-50% of parents ask the kids where they want to eat.

Great idea engaging the kids! I read your comment and when I saw that Parents.com had come out with a list of kid-friendly restaurants, I decided to write a blog post on the topic. Do you happen to recall where you saw figures about parents asking their kids where to eat? That's amazing--but thinking back, I'm sure my parents did that at least once in a while, too. I remember Ponderosa being one of my favorites (for very special occasions), but that's mostly because I had a serious sweettooth and loved that I could top my own ice cream and eat as much of it as I wanted.
