In your opinion are trade shows a great opportunity or a great nuisance?
Which trade shows to you attend? What is the average time you spend at the show?
How many trade shows do you exhibit at? Are you able to cover your costs by writing orders for new business?
Do you feel trade shows are great to investigate new opportunities and seek new supplier or customers, or just an opportunity to get closer with your existing customers and suppliers?
Are there too many trade events each year? Both regional and national?
Just wanted to see if there is a general consensus on trade events.
I love food shows, and try to attend the shows that come to Baltimore. One rule I'm seeing more and more (and don't like) is the restriction on taking food product samples off the show floor. I like to take things back to the cafe and see how they work in a real-world setting, not just how they taste right then at the show. I've actually cut out a few shows because of it, sad to say.
I only go to check out new products, as I stay in close touch with my suppliers all year round.
As for the number of shows...not enough of them come to Baltimore, so I miss quite a few of them.
I love to go to trade shows for more social than business reasons. It's one of those places where you get to take part in the gathering of the tribes..everyone you know and never see is there.
It is highly unfortunate that the CRA Restaurant Show is apparently not to be held in San Francisco again but on an alternating basis in San Diego and Los Angeles. One more loss for San Francisco's industry, as we are losing good people right and left to a combination of the local politics and the cost of gas. At any rate, I don't see myself flying down for it, although Chicago is on the map for next year.
