Event Description

Wolves are known for their keen senses with their heightened hearing, smell, taste and vision far superior to others in the animal kingdom.  So it is fitting that Long Beach’s newest restaurant, El Lobo (the wolf), strives to satisfy the dining public on every level by appealing to those very senses.

Under the careful guidance of Partner/Executive Chef Sonia Gomez, the new 40-seat eatery is dazzling guests with its menu of authentic, rustic Mexican cuisine – a far cry from the typical chain restaurants that have come to define the genre.

Open for dinner nightly, El Lobo offers a menu that includes such classic entrees as open-fire roasted Poblano peppers stuffed with pork picadillo (pears, plumbs and almonds) drizzled with walnut cream sauce and sprinkled with fresh Pomegranates; pan-seared Red Snapper sautéed in a fresh tomato, olive and caper jalapeno tequila sauce; and grilled Black Tiger Prawns sautéed in a garlic chile de arbol sauce with green and red bell peppers and onions served over stewed potatoes and vegetables.  All entrees are priced well under $20.

A number of salads are available including a grilled Romaine tossed in a cilantro, lime and jalapeno dressing and topped with grilled prawns and tender cactus.  Among the appetizers are a grilled artichoke stuffed with kings of palm and artichoke hearts and marinated ahi served over a bed of red and green cabbage.  Homemade soups include a turkey meatball stuffed with rice and fresh mint in a green and red bell pepper, tomato and onion broth are also available.   Most of these items are priced well under $10.

Located in the historic Bluff Heights neighborhood of Long Beach, El Lobo boasts a décor reminiscent of a cozy comedor (dining room) of an Old Colonial Mexican Hacienda.  With vintage movie posters of famous Mexican films lining the walls, the atmosphere is intimate and comfortable.  Traditional seating and even a few large tapestry upholstered chairs further lend an air of authenticity.

Address is 2941 East Broadway, Long Beach.  For reservations, call (562) 438-1311.  Visit ellobo@ellobolongbeach.com.
